    3. Noah and Norkett Williams were in Decatur Co., TN not too far from Weakley Co. Noah was there in 1840-1870 when he died. Norkett was younger and did not show up in Decatur Co. until the 1860 or 1870 census. They were nephews of Mewborn/Newborn Williams and were also from Anson Co., NC. Would anyone have any information on then in connection with our Mewborn/Newborn Williams d in Weakley Co. in 1837? This Williams family is getting more and more of a mystery as to where they went. 1. [TNWEAKLE] Leroy? Peter? SAMMONS/Simmons w/connections to GUNTER, ATKINSON, REAGAN, PEERY
    2. One of my major brick walls is Leroy Sammons. Leroy Sammons is my ggggrandfather. According to my records, he married Sarah Drake in Alabama, they were on 1850 census in Maury Co., TN. and then moved to Weakley. Leroy did not appear on the 1880 census, and Sarah did not appear on the 1900 census, but children of theirs married and lived in Weakley. I have been unable to find any burial or cemetery info for either of them. On their marriage and census records, the surname is consistently spelled "Sammons"; however, on some of the records of their children, the surname is sometimes spelled "Simmons". One of Leroy & Sarah's daughters, my gggrandmother Moriah Sammons, married William Reagan in Weakley and died before 1900. William died before 1910. I have been unable to find death, burial, or cemetery info for them also. Another daughter Martha married Francis (A.M.?) Atkinson. Francis died before 1880 and Martha died 1920/1930's, but I have also been unable to find death, etc. info for them. Martha & Francis had 2 children, Jon/John Francis and Lillian B. Jon married Minnie ? and they are buried at West Union Church Cemetery as is Lillian and her husband John R. Peery (sometimes listed as Perry). A third daughter Delitha married R. W. Gunter. On some of the records for CSA soldiers, there is a listing for Gunter, and it shows his wife Delitha's parents as "Peter & Sallie Simmons". Joe Stout told me he thought that info might have come from Susan Cox? I have tried to find a current contact for Susan so I could clarify the father's name, but have been unsuccessful. (If Susan sees this post, I would really appreciate her contacting me :-) ). I recently bought death certificates for R.W. & Delitha Gunter. Delitha's DOES show her father as "Peter Simmons". Of course, this was not direct info from Delitha, but it does concern me because I have never ran across a "Peter" Sammons. I would really be thrilled if I could break through this barrier!! Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Sorry this is so long--thanks for your patience in reading it! 3. Jewel, Please check the Weakley County website for any obituaries prior to November 1906. All available issues of the Dresden Enterprise have been abstracted and are available there. I usually check about three issues following the date of death, although there may be something even later because the obituaries which are more like those of today were usually written by a member of the family or a friend. I will look for the others. Martha > Athison (Atkinson), Infant son of J.E.(F.) & Minnie Athison June 17, > 1897 - > June, 1897 > > Atkison, J.F. August 20, 1874 and had a daughter Bertie/Berdie February 26, 1876. It seems she didn't have much luck with husbands as he died date and place unknown to me and she than married again as I found in the 1880 Weakley Census again she was with a new husband John Aikman a schoolteacher but ill at the time of the census and I believe at that time they lived in Dristen. Help from some one please, I just want to know where she might be buried. I believe he was born in KY she in TN. Thanks so much , Dona

    1. [TNWEAKLE] JONES in Weakley Co.
    2. B Gartside
    3. To PJ, Virginia, and Nancy, Jones families, I guess, can be genealogical nightmares. There were so many. Prior to 1830 (1820 census, I believe) there seem to have been 4 heads of household named William JONES in Wilson Co., TN so it's very confusing. My Andrew's father was William, born c1790 in Virginia and died, probably in Weakley Co. sometime after 1870 (appeared in 1870 census in Dist. 15). His father is thought, by some researchers of this line, to have also been named William. William, father of Andrew Jackson Jones, was married to Rebecca (unk. maiden name -- thought by some that her maiden name might have been LOONEY). She was born in 1789 (place unk.) and died Sept. 8, 1850. She was buried in the W. S. Scott Family Cemetery, Weakley Co., TN??? I'm not sure if the location of this cemetery is considered to be in Obion Co. now. I would guess it's in the McConnell area. Is that still Weakley Co. or Obion Co.? Unfortunately, I don't know the names of any of the siblings of William JONES (Jr.), b. c1790, and that's probably where we could learn more as to whether there's a connection between our JONES lines. I believe there is some connection to a John D. JONES whose wife (perhaps a second wife) Elizabeth F. was living with "my" William and his granddaughter, Rebecca, in the 1870 Weakley Co., TN Census. The best I can determine, the siblings of Andrew Jackson JONES were as follows: 1. Sarah H. JONES, b. March 14, 1812, Wilson Co., TN; d. March 5, 1884, Weakley Co., TN. Buried: W. S. Scott Family Cemetery. She married William Shank SCOTT (1807 - 1873) around 1833. 2. Esperan Looney JONES, b. c1818; d. Sept. 15, 1844, Weakley Co., TN. Buried: W. S. Scott Family Cemetery. (I think this is where researchers have gotten the idea that LOONEY was the maiden name of William's wife, Rebecca, since a daughter was given Looney as a middle name. 3. Nercis P. JONES, b. c1820; d. Sept. 6, 1844, Weakley Co., TN. (I guess I'll always wonder what the cause of death was for these two sisters since they died so near the same time.) 4. Stephen F. JONES, b. c1823 (interestingly, enough, he's said to have been born in KY in two censuses -- TN in another). He died aft. 1880. Stephen married Mary J. (unk. maiden name). One of their children was named William Isaac Erasmus Pinckney JONES so I've always wondered if one of those names was also the middle name of Stephen's father, William. Stephen is said to have been buried in what was, at that time, Jones Cemetery which was located on the east side of the road just a short distance from Martin towards Fulton, KY. All of the stones were, supposedly, removed many years ago. 5. W. T. JONES (prob. first name was William), but I have no information on him except that he appeared in the will of Andrew Jackson JONES listed as brother. 6. Ada JONES (no info except that she's listed as a sister in A.J.'s will) I imagine there were other children, but I've just gotten "stuck" as far as finding them goes. I keep hoping to come across more connections and something that will lead me to learn more about this line. Thanks for your interest, and I'll keep your JONES families in mind as I search. Brenda

    3. I'm looking for the same two sisters as always: Martha WILLIAMS born approx 1838 and Mahala Angelina WILLIAMS born approx 1833. Mahala Angelina lists her birthplace as Tennessee, Martha as Kentucky. I expect the family lived somewhere in the border area of Weakly TN/Graves KY, but I can't find Martha or Mahala in the 1850 census in either place so I can't identify their family. Family tradition said the sisters were part Native-American, but MitDNA tests show the maternal line at least was European, so not sure if there's any truth to the old tales or not. Mahala married Robert MCABEE in Weakley in 1852. Martha married William DICK, date and place unknown. The Dicks migrated to Scott Co. Missouri sometime before 1880. The McAbees migrated to Greene County Arkansas around the same time. Boy, are these girls a brick wall that refuses to come down. Michal

No more leaves, pollen pods, bird poop, squirrels and bugs. I would have liked for some woodworker to have had the main trunk but was told the mills won't touch them because there might be nails or bullets in them which tear up their saw blades. Joe - it was hit hard by freezing but was coming out again, plenty of green leaves and my neighbor down the street has pecan tree that is looking real green now. I was worried about the redbud trees but even they are putting out new leaves - the dogwoods have popped out with green leaves again - time will tell about the crepe myrtles. 1. [TNWEAKLE] Jones in Weakley County
    2. Nancy D Breidenthal
    3. Hi Brenda and Virginia, My Darling Jones of District 9, Weakley County, may be a cousin. Here's the info on him . . . Born 11 Oct 1815 in NC, the son of Matthew and Sarah Jones. The family was in Rutherford County, TN, just over the line from Wilson County, by 1830. There they were associated with the families of Smith, Hunter, Thorn, Miller, McPeak, and Ward; and to a lesser extent Drennan, Arnold, and Hewgley. Matthew and Sarah had at least 8 children, perhaps more. Besides Darling, one son was almost certainly Henry Jones and another may have been Abel Jones, both of whom moved to and died in Weakley County. One relative - the exact relationship isn't known - was William Jones (19 Feb 1786, NC - 28 Feb 1859, Rutherford County, TN). He had a farm and slaves on Fall[ing] Creek very close to Matthew and Sarah Jones. A Matthew NELSON purchased land from William there in 1821. Nancy
