She obeyed the gospel, and lived a devoted and consistent life to the day of her death. She leaves to mourn their loss two sons, Boma C. ATKISON and Flavil E. ATKISON, on one grandson Hulon Dale ATKISON, six brother: E. T. REAVIS, Dresden; R. M.REAVIS, Shawnee, Oklahoma; B. L. TEAVIS, Dalton Ga.; C. C. REAVIS, Gates; Clen H. REAVIS, Memphis; and Willie L. The Dresden Enterprise December 16, 1921 Death Claims Fine Christian Gentleman Willie Bernard PEERY was born January 28, 1892; he was married to Hellen WOODROUGH, October 25, 1911. To this union was born one little girl, Mabel, who was the joy and pride of his life. In early life, he professed faith in Christ and united with the Missionary Baptist Church at West Union. Later in life he united with the Christian Church by baptism by Rev. Fred CHUNN on September 6, 1915. He was always true to his professon of faith and lived a devoted member of the church. He was a good husband, father and was much devoted to his father, mother, brothers and sisters. He was a good neighbor and friend to all who knew him and to know him was to love him. He departed this life December 10, 1921 being twenty nine years, ten months and twelve days old at death. He leaves a loving wife, one little girl, father, step-mother, two brothers, one sister, one half sister and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his death. He was an intense sufferer all through his illness. Just before his departure he prayed to the Lord to take him up higher, and his last words were "Rightous Father, I've come to see you this morning and to stay with you forever in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord." We know our loss is heaven's gain. His remains were tenderly laid to rest at West Union Saturday afternoon, after funeral services by Bro. Fred CHUNN. A large crowd was present to pay the last tribute of respect. He is awaiting the resurrection morn.
David, There was probably a Martin Tennessee paper for this time period, but I only have microfilm for the Dresden paper. Some of the local libraries may do look-ups but I have no information about that, perhaps someone living in the area would be able to tell us which would be the best place to try? Nancy- I will definitely let you know. Interesting- I have always wondered if the Darling JONES family were somehow related to my JONES lines. I need to investigate this further! It presents another viewpoint of that family photo if it was hanging in his home also. Don, The three little Jones or Miller girls were definitely related to Darling and Margaret Miller Jones of Weakley County as the photo was hanging in Darling's house when he died. Below is an updated list of the identified family members of the JOHNS Family Reunion photo that is posted on the Weakley County Web site. Go to OLD PHOTO ALBUM under the letter "J" for JOHNS. Can anyone identify more members of this very large family reunion?
Looking for connections to the JOHNS family. Who is Jesse Wiseman JOHNS and where did he come from, who are his parents, who was his first wife ... Jesse Wiseman JOHNS was born about 1811 in either NC or TN depending on which census you read Jesse was married twice. First marriage to a possible Betty Wood/Woods. No information. Children of first marriage: Joseph Hayward JOHNS 1828 TN - 1917 MO Susan M. JOHNS 1832 TN - 1889 TN (my ancestor) married Gaines JONES Arethusa JOHNS about 1840 TN - ? no info Cashon JOHNS abt 1842 TN - ? no info Nancy JOHNS abt 1844 - ? no info James JOHNS abt 1848 - ? no info Second marriage to Charlottie EVERETT between 1848-1850 in either KY or TN. Charlottie was born in 1827 KY, died 1878 Weakely Co, TN. (Notice the age differences between Jesse and Charlottie) Children of second marriage: John Wesley JOHNS 1851 TN - 1915 (assumed Weakley Co) Mary Virginia JOHNS 1853 Weakley Co, TN - 1882 Weakley Co, TN Forest Lee JOHNS 1863 Weakley Co, TN - 1919 Fulton Co, KY Wiseman JOHNS and Charlottie Everett are buried at the New Hope Cemetery, no markers. >From the journal of Robert A. Wood (1849-1908), Weakley County Remembered Volume II, complied by Pansey Nanny Baker and Charlotte Stout Reynolds in 1981 and reprinted in 2007: Choloty Johns the wife of Wisemon Johns departed this life Nove 15, 1878 Old Man Wisemon Johns departed this life Jan 15, 1873 The only info I have about the first marriage comes from my grandfather, Carlis Gatewood's memory. He told my mother over 30 years ago that the parents of his mother Gorder JONES were Gaines (Gess) JONES and Susan JOHNS. Susan's parents were Jesse Wiseman JOHNS and Betty Woods and that Jesse had remarried and had three more children. My Granddad knew no other information of this lady Betty Woods. For years this was the only info we had. Recently I recieved the death certificate of Joseph Hayward JOHNS. It lists his father as Jesse JOHNS and mother as Unknown WOODS. This is the only possible verification of her name. There has been references to a "Old Uncle Woods" belonging to the JOHNS family. The last four children from the first marriage are listed on the 1850 Weakley Co Census, with Charlotte as Jesse's wife. Arethusa is listed with the family on the 1860 Hickman Co, KY census but none of the younger children are. None of these children are listed on the 1870 Weakley County cenus, only the children from the second marriage. I can find no records of any of these four siblings (Arethusa, Cashon, Nancy or James) Joseph is the only sibling of my ancestor Susan I have been able to trace. I do not know where Susan is buried. Her husband Gaines is buried in New Hope Cemetery. From the same journal of Robert Wood is this reference: Gess Jones departed this life June 18, 1887. Suson Jones wife of Gess Jones departed this life Dec 24, 1889. All these references though with a surname of WOOD leads me to believe there really is a Betty WOOD/WOODS. Can anyone help with this WOOD Family? I would also like to research the EVERETT family and their connection. Another interesting note: Susan JOHNS married Gaines JONES. Her brother Joseph married Margaret JONES. They moved to Putnam Co, MO before 1860. Margaret and Gaines were siblings. Their parents were Hiram JONES and Martha BURTON. On the Weakley County Web site is a JOHNS Family Reunion photo. The date is about 1914. There are several unidentified family members. In the past couple of weeks another researcher has been able to identify a few more members. I have sent these names to Mary Carol for the web site but will also post them in a seperate email. The surnames of members now include: JOHNS GATEWOOD PHILLIPS MORRISON MIDYETT JONES COLLEY Cris Gatewood Bean
Still looking for parents of George Washington CAMPBELL b. 1814 d. 1898. It has been assumed by many researchers that Mildred CAMPBELL b. 1810 d. 1892 was sister of George Washington Campbell. Both list on 1880 census that their parents were born in VA and they were born in TN. Because of the marrying of Campbell & Patterson brothers and sisters, it is thought that the Campbell family must have been near the Patterson family. OR - both G.W. and Milly Campbell were orphans and being raised by someone else??? *Mildred L. "Milly" CAMPBELL m. Oct 5, 1826 to Gilbert R. PATTERSON b. 1898 d. 1893 (son of Mark PATTERSON & Sarsh Dicy RIDDLE). Gilbert & Milly came in 1836 to todays Greenfield area - known as Locust Grove (per newspaper article). Where were Gilbert and Milly married and where were they between 1826 and 1836?? * George Washington CAMPBELL m. July 17, 1834 to Elizabeth "Betty" PATTERSON b. 1815 d. 1898 - sister of Gilbert PATTERSON (dau of Mark PATTERSON & Sarsh Dicy RIDDLE). Where were they married? It was the custom of the day to be married in the brides county. Was the Patterson family in Henderson Co in 1834 or still in Henry Co.? *Mark PATTERSON is listed as member of road crew in Robertson Co, TN 1815. He is on the 1820 census for Robertson Co., TN with 3 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 26-45; 4 females under 10 and 1 female 26-45. 1828 Henry Co, TN tax list - Mark PATTERSON with 1 poll. 1830 Henry Co., TN Census - Mark is listed 0210101 - 0111001 1832 Henry Co.,TN tax list - 100 acres 1840 Census Henderson Co.,TN Mark PATTERSON - 2 males 15-20, 1 male 50-60 -2 females 10-15, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 50-60. They are living next door to Morgan GILLIAM, son-in-law. Mark owned land in Weakley Co., TN. Mark PATTERSON - Deed for 200 acres 12-1-1843, land adjoined his son, Thomas PATTERSON. Listed on tax books 1845, 1846 and 1847. 200-210 acres valued at $600. He sold to sons Riddle and Mark PATTERSON Jr 4-23-1851. When did Mark PATTERSON move to Henry Co and then to Henderson County, TN? Did the PATTERSONS & CAMPBELLS know each other from Robertson Co, Henry Co, Henderson Co?? 1826 Gilbert & Milly married. 1834 G. W. & Betty married. *Gilbert R. PATTERSON was first to live in Weakley Co - 1836. Thomas B. PATTERSON appears to be the first to own land in Weakley - then Gilbert R. PATTERSON and father, Mark PATTERSON -1843 - and then G.W. CAMPBELL & Betty PATTERSON CAMPBELL 1847. Anyone have early deed dates of Gilbert PATTERSON? * 6 of the 11 children of Mark & Dicy PATTERSON settled in Weakley Co., TN. - Gilbert, Thomas, Fannie who married Sam BAKER, Elizabeth who married George Washington CAMPBELL, Mark Jr, and Riddle. The other 5 settled with Mark & Dicy in Henderson Co., TN -- Sarah who married Morgan GILLIAM, Charles (Daughters Sarah & Millie each married a McADAMS moved back to Greenfield.), Mary who married Elias RICHARDSON, Milberry who married Christopher JONES, and Nancy who married Zachariah BEACHAM. Any clues from these families?? WHERE were the parents of G.W. CAMPBELL in 1826? MaryCarol
Martha, I'm thrilled to be able to give YOU some info after all the help you have given me!! John Francis's father was Francis A. M. Atkinson. I believe the M. is for Marion. I have been going over my Atkinson notes and rechecking some censuses and decided that some of my previous hunches about this family may prove to be correct--just need a little more time to get it put together. I posted a message to the list Dec. 9, 2006, with some info on Francis, Martha, and children if you want to check the archives. Please let me know if you are interested in additional details. Hi Katie, LaVere Peters has quite a bit on Hudspeths. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lavere/ You might want to check it out. Happy hunting, Audean Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: Romans 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Romans 1:29 --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Could anyone help me find the burial site of James Augustus "Bud" Winston, son of James M. Winston and Mary L. Catherine Jenkins and husb. of Ada Moss. He was b. 1856. I know the date of death was Sept. 1881. He may have been buried in the Winstead cem. as many of Ada's relatives are buried there. I have not found him in any of the Weakley Co., TN. cemetery listings. I would also like any information of James M. Winston's parents. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks PJ, this is a side of my line that I haven't looked at for some time. It appears that I also had Thomas MCCLURE and Lydia GORE on another branch. The Husband of Birdie Fay MCCLURE was Walter Gray MCCLURE, and his G-G-Grandfather was Thomas. This line is a bit complicated. Both my g-g-grandparents Walter Gray and Birdy Fay were MCCLURES. Walter Gray through Joshua -> Jonathan -> Thomas and Birdie Fay through David Washington -> Martin Van Buren. It looks like this line came from Alabama. Does anyone know anything else about this? Also, if anyone has a gedcom or a detailed family list for one or both of these families that they could share, I would really appreciate it. It appears that I have a few things mixed up. I corrected the Thomas/Lydia error. Thanks!
