    3. Obviously, none of yall grew up on a tobacco farm. You sucker plants so the growth goes into the main stems and is not wasted growing extra frivoulous plant growth that is of no use for selling or eating. http://www.taunton.com/finegardening/media/g00031_01.jpg See this drawing.... And happy eating! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lee Cate" <leecate@cddn.com> To: <tnweakle@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 03, 2007 11:00 AM Subject: [TNWEAKLE] TOMATOES This may be a little hard to explain in writing but here goes. The tomato plant will have a main stem with branches growing from this stem. At the junction of the main stem and these branches a "shoot" or another small limb will grow. These growths are called "suckers". To sucker the plant you simply pinch this "shoot" off. This will prevent the plant from going all to vine and will allow it to use the nutrients to make tomatoes. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Virginia Long" <vlong38@yahoo.com> > To: <tnweakle@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, June 03, 2007 9:54 AM > Subject: Re: [TNWEAKLE] TOMATOES > > >> What does it mean to "sucker the plants" ? 3. I figure I'm never too old to learn new things and/or tricks. And believe me, I'm old. LOL Thanks, Lee. I think you explained it very well. Forever grateful, Virginia in MO, ( and, no, I did not grow up on a tobacco farm, but I did live in Gleason, TN for a short time and often wish I still lived there.) ( Big smile.) 1. [TNWEAKLE] WARREN - CAUDLE FAM REUNION
    2. MaryCarol
    3. Thank you so much, Len, for the info on John T. Warren - I don't have access to the turn of century census. He built our old 110+ yr old house in early 1890's - bought the lot in 1891 for $5 - yes, five dollors - which must have been a brother-in-law price, even then. I have been putting together a history of our middle class, victorian house. I bought the original gingerbread front porch.....the house was free......smile!! From the Caudle reunion below - I discovered that the J.B. KIMERY & wife Belle who owned our house from 1905 - 1907 was Jessie B. KIMERY, son of James L. KIMERY & Mary L. CAUDLE, dau of John R. CAUDLE & Nancy GARRETT. We attended the CAUDLE family reunion last sunday in Greenfield. It seemed strange to be there at the Pavilion building sort of as a guest, not hosting the event, which my Fred and I do each fall for the CAMPBELL family. Met a whole bunch of cousins I didn't know I had, very friendly people - wonderful visiting time, outstanding food - real proud to call them "Cousins"! This branch of the Caudle family is out of William Andrew CAUDLE (James Clayton CAUDLE & Nancy Adaline KIMERY; John R. CAUDLE & Nancy GARRETT; William G. CAUDLE & Hannah H. DAVIS - Alfred KIMERY & Elizabeth Jane GANT; Frederick D. KIMERY & Turley FRIDDLE) & Millie Bell HEATH (John R. HEATH & Mary Jane CAMPBELL; Harrison HEATH & Mariah Berry HUGHES; - George Washington CAMPBELL & Elizabeth PATTERSON). Any Caudle cousins out there - email me private for pictures. 1. Re: [TNWEAKLE] BLAKEMORE
    2. Dot & Len Milner
    3. Joe, You are right--all census' show only the initials of Wiley B. Blakemore, Sr. He is found in the following Weakley County census': 1840--Listed as Blakemon, W. B.--District 7-Dresden. 1850--#60-District 7-Dresden 1860--#1243-1243-District 7-Dresden 1870--#123-370-371-District 7-Dresden He died 18 Jan 1875 in Dresden. Note that his wife, Catherine, is shown in all of the census' as being born in North Carolina-not Tennessee. Wiley Bashaw Blakemore, Jr. is listed in the 1880 Weakley Census as Wiley B. with 1st wife, Rebecca, who died in July of that year in Martin. He then married Florence B. Pearce in about 1884. She was the daughter of Unknown Pearce and Martha Unknown. She was born in Mississippi in Jul 1861 and died in 1926 in Weakley County. So this is the Wiley Bashaw Blakemore listed in the 1900 Weakley Census with children Willie ans Mattie Mai. I cannot find him in the 1920 Census but he is shown as living with his daughter, Pearl, and son-in-law Lee A. Elliott in District 2, Page 19B (Poplar St.). He died 5 Oct 1939 at the age of 90.
