John Porter OLIVER and Lula PARHAM married on March 28, 1886 in Weakley Co. >From various census records, I have come up with this list of their children and the daughters' married names mentioned in Lula's obituary. Luther, born Dec. 1886 Alma, born Feb. 1890 (possibly Mrs. Earn SMITH) Lee, b. May 1892 Mandy, b. August 1893 (Mrs. Clay TAYLOR) Maggie Mae, b. Feb 20 1903 (Mrs. Will BUNTIN) Hazel, b. about 1906 (possibly Mrs. TRAVIS) John T., b. about 1910 Hope this helps, Jenwyl
I thought it might be the right family if there was an error made by the enumerator on the name of John W., age 13 on the census record, looks like 15 to me on the actual census. Also, it's Mary E. C. Parham, not Reavis, enumerated with Henry P. Oliver. The name Parham is another reason I thought it might be the right family, but again, only a possibility. The census says she lives at house #482 which is Stephen H. Morris. He has Edgar Parham, grandson, age 8, listed in his household. I just found a John P. Oliver, age 53, on the 1880 in Weakley. This is another possibility, but I can't get the image to come up on Ancestry. I don't descend from the Olivers, so I haven't gone into depth on research for them. Martha, if you could locate the obituary for John Porter Oliver, it may help to identify his parents, and children's given names. Do not have the month he died. Cemetery only has 1865-1940. He and Lula Parham married in 1886, making her about 16/17 yrs of age. Thank you Barbara Lucas ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Margaret Patton Drake, born May 17, 1844, married William W. Parham December 28, 1859. This is in Weakley Remembered, Volume 2, page 102, under Drake Family Bible. I don't know Margaret's exact death date, but do know it was between 1875 (when her last known child was born) and February 4, 1877 when W.W. Parham and his second wife, Hettie Emaline Jeanes, were married. Thanks for all you do to honor our Confederate Veterans. Hello, Great job in finding the obit for Lula. I posted it this morning. I did not understand the listing of her children. And once again if I read it right a Parham married a Buntin. I wonder why it did not show her last name to be Buntin? I guess her kids she had with John P. were deceased by this time (Hazel, Maggie). And yet another mystery. Now maybe someone can get us a marriage date and a name of that Buntin she married. He is probably related to us also. Hello again, Cheryl, Your Charley King gives his birth date as Aug 5 1883 on his WWI Draft Card. On the 1900 census of Gibson County, there is Charley King, b. Aug 1883, son of William and Laura King. He has a bunch of siblings. I would say this is your man and his family. I will be happy to send you the census and the Draft Card if you would like them.
