    3. My first McClain ancestor to arrive in Weakley County was George McClain b. April 13, 1783 in Rockingham Co NC. His father was Joseph McClain. George's greatgrandfather, John, arrived in MD in 1711 coming from somewhere in the British Isles. George was the second of seven children. We know little of Thomas b. abt 1770 or Charles b. aft 1784. His sisters Elizabeth b. abt 1790 and Nancy b. 1792 remained in Rockingham Co all their lives. His brother Joseph b. aft 1784 settled near Jones Mill in NW Henry Co TN abt 1835. George's sister Mary b. abt 1794 married James Alderdice from Rockingham Co and settled in Weakley Co district 1 after 1830. She is the ancestor of most if not all the Alderdices in Weakley and Graves Counties. George first married Jane Dill of Caswell Co NC abt 1802. They had one daughter, Rachel Christa who married Elisha Pascal. They are the ancestors of many of the Pascals in Henry and Weakley Co. Jane died abt 1803. On Nov 2, 1804 George married Mary (Polly) Keen b. abt 1787, also of Caswell Co. They had about 13 children of which nine can be identified. George and Mary were the ancestors of most but not all the McClains in Weakley, Henry, Graves, and Calloway Counties. George settled in District I between Austin Springs and Boydsville in 1829. His daughter Rachel had preceded him by about three years. His oldest son, John, settled just north of Jones Mill in Henry Co about the same time. Most of George and Mary's children came with them, the last two were born in Tennessee. George lived the remainder of his life on a 200 acre farm that he and his sons carved out of the wilderness. I checked the April 1904 issues of the Dresden Enterprise on the Weakley Web Site, and didn't find anything on Mrs. King. I have no film for the years after 1970. Sorry I was not able to help you.     3. The Gardner family began in Southampton Co., Va. by Joshua Gardner who died in 1793, the father of 7 sons, 2 daus. He had a son named John Gardner who married Patience Whitehead in 1796 and immediately left for Robertson County, Tn. with his brothers and sisters and their families. This John Gardner had 7 sons and 2 daus. also. The boys were: Wm. Henry; Jessee Grizzard; Joshua, Jeptha, Alfred; Richard W.; & John Almus. The girls were: Martha Armenia & Tempta.
