This is what I know of the migration of the Simmons family whose report I sent earlier. John SIMMONS, according to the bio of his son, William Patterson SIMMONS, in Goodspeed's History of TN (Weakley Co.) was born "somewhere in Middle TN (I still don't know the county.) Family stories say the family came, originally, to TN from Oxford, Granville Co., NC. John was head of his own household in 1840 Weakley Co. census and 1850 (Dist. 8). In 1860, he was in Obion Co.; 1870: Weakley Co.; 1880: Obion Co. I don't know if he moved back and forth or if the boundaries changed a bit. He died in Obion Co. in 1890 but descendants, including my grandparents and parents lived in Weakley Co. for many, many years. Brenda

He married FRANCES CLEMENTINE DYER1,1,1 04 Jul 1867 in Weakley, Tennessee1, daughter of UNK DYER and UNK UNKNOWN. She was born 27 Jun 1851 in Tennessee1, and died 14 Sep 1891 in Weakley, Tennessee. Notes for GIDEON MARION JOLLY: From: Joyce Hunt [mailto:hhunt2416@charter.net] Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2007 1:11 PM To: Suzanne Scarbrough Subject: HELLO I meant to tell you that the Mormon relative (Jolley family) donated the book of the Jolley family to the Paris library. At one time Ruth, our cousin, had the one that Uncle Ernest owned. It seems your mother's and mine ,of course, great-granddaddy, Marion Gideon or Gideon Marion Jolley's brother, Henry, followed Joseph Smith to Utah and it is an interesting book-----because of the many wives they had---there are a lot of Jolleys all over the world. Anyhow he went into depth about our origins---starting in France. And of course they were our direct ancestors, too. If I read it right one of our direct ancestor---way back---was a direct descendant of King Edward I. Unfortunately he had many children, some illegitament. I wish I could buy that book. Hope this helps. I also told Cathy Perkins about the book since she was also interested. Marion and Frances Clementine are buried at West Union Cemetery several feet apart. Wayne Perkins told me that he understood that maybe she ---Frances Clementine, who was a Dyer, might have been Cherokee Indian or part. Because of the rumors when her brother came from Ga. to visit. This was a long time ago. He was very dark, black headed. Anyhow something about that---we really don't know. But I do know somewhere in my daddy's family there is Indian blood. And also in the Lackey family. I just thought this might help---in case you haven't already found this all out. Hope you are well and kicking. One of the early petition signers for separation of Weakley co from Henry county was john f Fourney and he apears on the 1823 petition for separation. It is his son N.Y. Thanks for letting me know, Audrey. I think my report is about 18 pages when printed, so wasn't sure if I could send it successfully. I'm glad it made it through. Thanks Donald. Yes, that's the Cecil ROBEY, I believe, who was Ike's son. He died sometime in the past few years. Pj, I sent my report to the list, but it is being held for review because it is so long. I was afraid that would happen. Carolyn
There was a Cecil Robey that lived just East of the McConnell, TN (Obion County) community, back in the early/middle/late fifties. You might want to check the Obion County Census for more information. I do not know how long he lived in Obion County. I really like this idea. A notebook of all these submissions will be an invaluable resource. If we include where they came from, where in the county they settled, and when they arrived we will be able to develop a much more complete picture of the early settlers. We might even inspire the rewrite of some of our local histories. Keep on writing. Garry Brown
This DAVID CLARK is the ancestor of many current residents of the Weakley County area. The following story is a brief summary of the David Clark story as told in the pension records. Each part of the story is contained in a sworn deposition made under oath to officials of the state and county courts. The story is supported by depositions from several people. These depositions were found in the Index of the Revolutionary War Pension Applications in the National Archives listed under: CLARK, DAVID, North Carolina, Charity, R1964. DAVID CLARK'S family came from Bedford County Virginia to Surry County North Carolina sometime before the Revolutionary War. David entered the Company of Captain William Shepherd as a volunteer in 1776 and served in an expedition against the "Scotch Tories" near Cross Creek in the vicinty of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He served in several different expeditions under different commanders, returning to his father's home between them throughout the war. He was involved in the expedition against the Cherokee that resulted in the Treaty of Long Island. He also served in the campaign against the Tory Bryant and the Tory Roberds. In 1778, David married CHARITY BOON in Surry County and hired a replacement to serve in his place for five or six months. This was the only long interruption in his service. After the war, David and and several others in his family moved to the Pendleton District of South Carolina. In 1803, he and perhaps three of his brothers moved to Christian County, Kentucky. After living there for five or six years, David and at least two of his seven children, DAVID JR and WILLIAM moved to what is now Weakley County. These are the Clarks that settled near what is now known as Good Springs Church north of the North Fork of the Obion. The youngest of the children, David Jr., subsequently moved to the northern part of Graves County, Kentucky and from there to Massac County, Illinois. WILLIAM was an established farmer when the county was first created. He was an early road foreman and was on the first tax list. He lived on the same farm until his death in 1845. His widow, JANE, lived on that same farm until her death in 1900. William and Jane had eleven children three of whom, Robert, James, and Micajah, raised families in the area. Robert had twelve children. His descendants are the most numerous in the Weakley area today. Family Group Sheet Subject* William CLARK (185) Birth: __ ___ 1787 Pendleton Dist SC. Pleasant Thacker was born abt 1793 in Pittsylvania Co VA. He arrived in Weakley Co between March 1836 and Nov 1838 with five of his six children. His oldest daughter, Lucretia, apparently remained in VA. The Thacker family settled near Latham just south of the North Fork of the Obion River, probably near New Hope Church between Latham and Palmersville. Pleasant was in Pane's Co VA Militia during the War of 1812. He married Patsy Walker in 1820 in Pittsylvania Co. She was the mother of all of his children but there is no record of her arriving in Weakley Co. He married Sarah G Byers in 1852, a second marriage for both of them. He died August 14, 1872 in District 5. His burial site is unknown. The proof showed that the road fenced in was private property and had never been declared a public road. Mr. Taylor had been confined to his bed for a long period, though he appeared perfectly resigned and some time ago requested that after death no funeral service be held over his remains, stating that he had endeavored all through life to preach his own funeral. His had been a long and honored career. He was upright in all his dealings and died as he had lived - without an enemy. The remains were laid to rest Tuesday at Blooming Grove. There are eleven children, as follows: J.J., T.E., Dock, S.A. and a son in Mississippi; Mrs. Woody Dunlap, Mrs. Mattie Insco, Mrs. Bud Duke, Mrs. Elbert Heathcoat, Mrs. A. H. Insco and Mrs. Ad Burroughs. It is estimated that he leaves 200 grand, great and great great grand children. Two aged brothers, Messrs. Taylor, was born Jan. 8, 1860; died Sept. 9, 1930; age 70 years, 8 months and one day. She was married to John R. Anderson, Jan 15, 1878. To this union was born two children, Alice, a baby girl having died in infancy, and Willie, living to be twenty years. After Mr. Anderson's death she was married to Mr. W.C. Insco Nov. 21, 1901. This union was very happy and continued for ten years, when Mr. Insco departed this life. She was later married to Mr. Albert Maubray. Early in life she made a public profession of religion and at the age of 18 united with the Corinth Baptist church, where she remained a loyal member until death. Mrs. Insco, as she was commonly known, was of a large and highly respected family of this community. She leaves four brothers, Mr. James J. Taylor, T.E. Taylor, S.A. Taylor, of Dresden; Mr. A. M. Taylor of Scoobe, Miss., one brother, Mr. C.C. Taylor, having preceded her to the grave. Mrs. Insco's life was a great inspiration to us all. She truly walked by faith and not by sight, proving to us all that she sought a city which hath foundations and whose builder and maker is God. She never complained in her sufferings and seemed to be perfectly reconciled to God's providential dealings with her, dying in a triumphant faith of God and the immortality of the soul. Let's "lift up out heads, for, behold our Redemption draweth nigh," and "weep not for her as one who had no hope." Martha Ann was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church since 1878.
