I would appreciate very much a lookup for an obituary for either a GILBERT or J.P. PENTECOST in Weakley County. Also, I am trying to find out where he is buried. He should be buried somewhere in Weakley County since he lived there all his life. He was born circa 1869 and died circa 1892 in Weakley County. He was the first husband of my great grandmother, SARAH ELIZABETH JENKINS. They were married in Paragould, Greene County, AR, on October 6, 1887. Sarah Elizabeth was only 16 when they married, so am wondering if they eloped since they went all the way to Arkansas to marry. I have so many unanswered questions about these two. Carolyn Storie

Janis, You can purchase microfilm from the Tennessee State Library and Archives. If you go to their website they will give you the information on their holdings. I believe that the film is now $25. per roll. More recent film on newspapers contains only one years' issues where in the past there were several years on one film. There are slso films of court records, marriages etc. You can also rent these films from the Family History center at your local Mormon church but you cannot take the film away from the center or at least you can't here in Springfield, Illinois . I bought my own film reader, but they are very expensive unless you can find a used one. Our local libraries will let you bring in your own film and use their readers. In the twilight hours of May 5th, 1862, a lone detachment of Union cavalry calmly dismounted for a brief rest near a small river crossing called Lockridge's Mills in Weakley County, Tennessee, near Latham. My reason for the Lochridge/Lockridge and Eskridge inquiry is because I found that it was Laura Louisa Lochridge the daughter of Marshall Stone Lochridge that was the girl that Major Carl Schaeffer de Boernstein saw on the porch of the Lochridge home and being a ladies man he stopped to see her. This visit cost Maj. Schaeffer his life. My page on this WBTS Skirmish is online here; http://www.geocities.com/moedini2001/Civil_War.html? Scroll down for this account. A complete detail of this battle, "They Met At Lockridge's Mills by Dieter C. Ullrich", is linked from there. A photo of the Lochridge home is on that page. I have discovered that Laura Lochridge married James F. Latham a few months later in August of that year but have been unable to find them anywhere after the date of their marriage. I would like to hear from anyone that may have information on James and Laura. Joe Stout
Hi-- Some of you might be interested in the vandalism we've had at the Paris City Cemetery. About 28 headstones were knocked over, including that of Congressman John Crockett, son of David Crockett. Many other stones of founding citizens of Paris also were damaged--Dunlaps, Irions, Hambys, etc. Crews from the city and the local monument works worked all day yesterday and repaired the damage and things look as good as new. We have an article and photos about it in the HenryCountian today--it's at www.henrycountian.com. If you want to see the original article and other photos, go to the search engine on the left side of the page and type in "cemetery vandalism". A few years back I worked with someone on this list regarding the Pentecost family. Would you get in touch . Bob Killebrew 153 Sand Dr. Naples Fl. 34104 239-643-2981 Bkiller8224@wmconnect.com </HTML>
Janis, Sorry, I have the microfilm for the years through 1970 only, so I am unable to look for this obit. You might try the Weakley County libraries in Dresden or Martin to see if they will look this up for you. I have had good luck doing this other places where they will look it up, print it and send it to you for a small fee. If anyone knows where and how this can be done in Weakley, please send the information to the list, it would be very helpful to those of us who do not live in the area. Janis, She is buried at Pisgah. I looked up her funeral home records. Haven't time right now to look for obit. If you need me to, I will later today.
