    1. [TNWEAKLE] Doherty response to Audrey S
    2. Kay Blaha
    3. My Dohertys came from Ireland in 1846 & 1847 and landed in Manayunk PA for about ten years before moving to Minnesota. The parents were Hugh Doherty and Sarah Evans. All but 2 of the kids ended up in Minnesota. One daughter Ann/Nancy remained in Pennsylvania and Richard Doherty who lived in Weakley Co. If any of the Doherty variation researchers have found Richard in the 1860 census, please let me know. Thanks, Kay Ahhh, if PJ Thompson or Garry Brown hasn't already corresponded with you, I'll bet they will. There is DORRITY, DOUGHERTY, etc. in PJs McCLAIN line (which is my McLAIN line that came to Lawrence Co AR before 1850) ... I can't with with much authority on your line, but PJ and Garry might be able to do so. Were yours ever in White or Warren Co TN? I found a ton of land records in Warren Co for George DORRITY, dating from early 1800s.

    3. Here is my response....RESPONSIBILITY.....is the name of the game. Too much irresponsibility has been bread into the younger generation of today. Additionally, a call in to the WCMT morning call in show from 8:00 to 9:00, should be considered. That number is 731-588-1410. With the exception of the juvenile, everything else is public information, that can be obtained from law enforcement records. 3. Things of this nature have always caused me concern. It is my opinion that whoever is found guilty of these charges, should do jail time plus community service, and be fined for the repair expenses!! These no account rats know better, and we all know it! Now that I have it off my chest, I feel much better! I would make a good Judge!! I would like to know how this turns out as well, so I suppose I will watch the online Mckenzie Banner, and check the Dresden enterprise, plus if ya'll will inform me I will appreciate it. 3. Just as a clue for anyone who might be researching the family of A. E. SCOTT, listed in the Weakley Co. Goodspeed bios --- the bio states "His mother's maiden name was FULLER, and she was a descendant of the HALL family of North Carolina, one of whom was Secretary of State of North Carolina for a number of years." First, let me say that the actual Goodspeed book DOES list the name as HALL, but the correct family name was HILL, not HALL. Susan FULLER SCOTT (1827 - 1906) was the great niece of William HILL (III), who was Secretary of State of North Carolina for 46 years from 1811 until his death in 1857. There has never been a Secretary of State in North Carolina named HALL. William HILL (III) was the gg uncle of A. E. SCOTT, and was the brother of my ggg grandfather, James HILL. Even with the occasional inaccuracy, the Goodspeed bios are tremendously valuable for research. Thanks very much for posting them. Yes, we've all been stupid at times, and we've all had to pay for it, and learn something from our errors. It's more than a matter of money--can the vandals, if found guilty by the court, pay for their errors in cemetery mowing and trimming? Can a foreman direct them to repair the church? 2. My Mother made wonderful dumplings, but mine never seem to be quite as good as hers! She made the same dough she made for biscuits, and added egg to it. She would make them the day before, and refrigerate the dough. She said it made a stiffer dough, and the dumplings always held together better when regrigerated. Every summer when my kids would go spend a couple of weeks with her and my Dad, my daughter would always ask her to make her chicken and dumplings sometime during the visit. Mama was a wonderful cook! Judy Connell Woodruff ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

Dumplings I dropped by teaspoons into chicken broth. This has been fun today reading mail about larapin and dumplings. M.E.

    3. My mother made wonderful dumplings (chicken and dumplings). I haven't a clue as to what went into them (except flour), but she would roll and immediately cut them and then drop them into the boiling chicken broth (like noodles, only not dried at all before cooking). She always thought they were terrible since they were thicker than what she remembered her own mother making. These rolled "dumplings" were the only kind I ever knew about until I was grown and became interested in recipes. I've been craving my mother's dumplings since I began reading everyone's dumpling messages this a.m. LOL Brenda ----- Original Message ----- From: "M.E.Sorensen" <jsorensen4@cfl.rr.com> To: <TNWEAKLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2007 5:02 PM Subject: [TNWEAKLE] Dumplings > When you roll the dough out into strips I call them noodles. 3. Re the boiled hushpuppies, I have to agree that the corn meal recipe sounds like a hushpuppy, lol. Certainly never ate any like that from my clan that hailed from TN / AR. Must be a Savannah or GA thing, as that is home to Paula Dean. The cornmeal kind don't sound half bad though ...interesting that they are put in a 'greens' dish ...like Mustard or Turnip Greens, or Kale or Collards also I suppose. I do LOVE good greens, yum. The only kind of Southern dumplings I have ever eaten were made with white flour, like a baking powder biscuit dough. Just make a regular biscuit dough with baking powder, flour and roll out the dough flat, pretty thin .....between 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch thick ...use a pizza cutter to cut strips, drop strips one by one quickly in boiling broth. (Can stir in cooked chicken when they are done for "Chicken 'n Dumplin's). The traditional method I grew up with was to stew a whole chicken covered in water, with celery, onion and a carrot tossed in. Cook it until the chicken begins to fall off the bone ...to make a good, rich broth. Remove the chicken, cool it, remove chicken and toss out the skin, bone, and gristle. Strain the broth. Can be done a day ahead. My mother's favorite shortcut for Chicken and Dumplings is to use 'plain' (not flaky, buttery kind) refrigerator biscuits (refrigerated can where you unwrap the paper covering and pop open the can), roll them out, slice them and drop them in the broth. I don't care for the sort of wet-dough drop dumplings made from boxed Biscuit Mix. My experience is that box mix makes them a bit too tender and they will fall apart in the broth. I've had the best luck making "drop" dumplings from plain biscuit dough. Just don't add quite so much flour .....need slightly sticky dough. It's not much of a shortcut to do the drop dumplings, may as well roll 'em out. If anybody has a good trustworthy white flour / biscuit style mix dumpling, I'd like to hear about it. 1. [TNWEAKLE] Sunday Rockin'
    2. One of the list members wrote how she loved this site and it being like a trip home. I couldn't agree more!! I recall fondly many of my (and my mother, gmother, ggmother's) southern sayings. Words like larrupin', fits, fixin' to--as in fixing to do something, over yonder--as in over there, etc. Sometimes I've wondered if a lot of the things we say are even words, because a lot of places folks don't have ANY idea what I'm talking about! That is one of the things that is so special about "going home"--besides visiting family and friends, people know what I'm talking about! Thank all you members of this special family, and thanks for all your genealogical help.
