I have been a member of this list for about 10 yrs. and don't usually have much to say on the list. However, I feel that I have to speak up on the issue of the vandalism controversy. Make no mistake about it - I am totally against the behavior exhibited by the young people in this case. And I don't feel that any special treatment should be given to anyone, no matter what their status in the community. I am dismayed and disgusted that the vandalism took place - and I definitely feel that the guilty parties should receive their just punishment and should be required to make retribution. I can definitely sympathize with those who are distressed over the vandalism - for one of my family cemeteries, the Ralston Cemetery, was terribly vandalized over a number of years - and to my knowledge, no one was ever held accountable for this atrocity. However, I am equally dismayed that judgment has been passed so readily and that we seem so eager to condemn. I know first-hand how this feels because my husband is a minister and my family has had this kind of thing to deal with throughout the years that our children were growing up. There were always people who talked about everything my children did - and even some things they didn't do. My children were not perfect . as NO children are perfect. Kids (including my own) make mistakes . sometimes they make very stupid mistakes. And I can say - from being on the other side of the fence - that the parents can be quite embarrassed and humiliated by some of the things their children do. I know from experience, that there are many parents who do not spare the rod - but discipline, teach and instruct their children in a responsible manner, raising their children in a loving, Christian home environment - as well as in church - only to have those children rebel and make stupid mistakes in their teenage and young adult years. I think we owe it to the families of all the individuals involved to pray for them . for I'm sure that they are probably heart-broken over what has happened. And take it from someone whose family has been held under a microscope . there is plenty of embarrassment and humiliation to go around. I know if I were in their shoes, I would appreciate your prayers. I hope the court system does the right thing and that these young people are required to take responsibility for their actions. In the meantime, let's pray for the families. Deborah
Just a follow-up to my previous posting, about calling and emailing the newsroom/call-in show. My thought is to just put the question to them, "have you received any information concerning vandalism at the New Hope Methodist Church?" Giving them the benefit of the doubt, the radio station may not be aware of the incident. This opens the door for a more informative entrance, rather than accusatory. By the way, PJ tells me the church is located just off Hwy 190 between Ruthville community and Chestnut Glade. I did not know until she mentioned it. Be prepared to give the facts, however you approach them. If they then have the facts and do not act is one thing, but having no facts and expecting them to act, is another. The above are my intentions.... Don Welch
Here in Okie City, we got 8 inches in four hours last night, along with 60 to 80 mph straight winds in parts of the state . . . flooding everywhere. We needed rain real bad, but it would have been nice to have it spread out a little. Oh well, at least I won't have to water the grass for a few days. ----- Original Message ----- From: "pj" <pj@ken-tennwireless.com> To: <TNWEAKLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 19, 2007 5:47 PM Subject: [TNWEAKLE] Sunday Rockin' > It is coming a "shower" in the north of Weakley..........I am so proud of > the 2 drops so far...........Hope and Pray we get 10 drops this > time..........pj > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > TNWEAKLE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
I agree with Deborah. We should pray for the families involved and for those that this church means so much. In my first post on this situation I reminded all that in this country everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty in a court of law. Has anyone that is connected to this cemetery and church picked up the phone and asked any of the authorities to explain this situation. To my knowledge they have not. If this was my church I would have done so and then possibly we would know the facts. I have not done so because I did not feel that it was my place to do so and I’m sure the authorities would want to know what connection I had to this church and cemetery. There is always the possibility that there is an explanation for the $500 misdemeanor charge. This does not mean that this should not have been brought to light as I have been instrumental in presenting the facts as well as I could determine them to be. In th Since they admitted to the offense and it is a misdemeanor they would not need an attorney. If they plead guilty punishment would have to be less than one year in jail with possible restitution. Most all first offenders would be given a suspended sentence with unsupervised probation. -----Original Message----- From: tnweakle-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnweakle-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of kruecamp1@aol.com Sent: Sunday, August 19, 2007 3:47 PM To: tnweakle@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNWEAKLE] Information about New Hope Church & Cemetery It would be great to have the courtroom filled with observers, then everyone can write a letter for the letter section of the paper.
