OK, I am a little slow to get on board and I did not get in on the original post about the vandalism. I saw the photo of the church damages. My question is whether there was damage done to the graves? My 3rd great uncle Joseph Vincent THOMAS is buried at New Hope Cemetery and was wondering if this or any of the other few grave were damaged? Terry L. The Dresden Enterprise July 6 1917 Page 1 Noble Christian Passes Away In the death on last Monday night at his home in Martin of Uncle Billie McLEAN, the community loses one of its most noble christian characters. Uncle Billie, as all called him, had been on declining health many months, and the news of his death was no surprise, none the less a shock to his legion of friends. Mr. McLEAN had been a citizen of Martin for many years and was of a quiet, unassuming nature, but warm-hearted and true to the very core. Several years ago his life-long companion passed away, and since then Uncle Billie has not seemed himself. He is survived by two sons, Attorney Chas. McLEAN and Mr. Will McLEAN. The body was interred Tuesay afternoon.

PJ, Were there state bounty lands in Weakley County? If so, where would one go to look for the original land patents? What about other counties in Tennessee? Thanks for the help. P.S. Joan's ideas for punishment for vandalism are so good, I'm going to send them to the newspaper here in Michigan where we have had both cemetery and war memorial vandalisms in the last couple of months. There are 3 New Hop Cemeteries in Weakley Co. The one that was vandalized is located in the Northwest part of the county near Ruthville. For a map go to findagrave.com. Click on search for a cemetery. Enter New Hope Cemetery. It will be the 3rd listing for New Hope in Weakley Co. There are 8 burials listed. There is a photo of the church and a photo of the Cemetery sign also. Plus or Minus will zoom in and out for the map. If you have family buried there you may enter their info. GREAT!! I think this is a very original, and very befitting, punishment. I agree that in the long run it would be much more beneficial to the young people than for them and/or their parents to pay a fine. Maybe you can find out who in the law/court arena might have jurisdiction over what punishment will be given and give them a copy of your idea.
