    3. Excuse me, on re-reading I see that it's Wilma's files and documentation you seek. Definitely try the UTM Library, and I'll print out your query and show it to the librarians at the Martin town library. > Can anyone on the list answer this lady's question? > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: CWilson246@aol.com > To: leecate@cddn.com > Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2007 12:22 PM > Subject: wilma graves calhoun mcguiston > > > Hi -- > > Some 20 years ago Wilma Graves Calhoun Mcguiston complied a > wonderful family history of the EDMUNDS (EDMONDS)/ PARRISH (PARISH) > but she did not provide the documentation for this history. > > I am wondering if she gave her files to the Weakley county > historical society or local genealogical society. 3. I'm working on a history project in Martin, which unfortunately does not have a Historical Society. However, their library does have extensive archives and materials pertaining to Martin specifically and Weakley County generally, in a special reference room there. I spend tons of time with those materials and working with one of the librarians. I'll be there again within the next couple of days, and I'll inquire for you. Your Wilma's history may well be there, or they may know where it is. (Perhaps Dresden, the county seat.) I'll see what I can find out. Also, you might want to contact UTM (University of Tennessee at Martin). They have an excellent local archives section in their campus library. Try the UTM website for the library e-mail address, and drop them a line. It's possible they're in possession of either Wilma's history or a photocopy of it. Good luck, and I'll post when/if I find out where it is. I am wondering if she gave her files to the Weakley county historical society or local genealogical society. Any information would be greatly appreciated. 1. [TNWEAKLE] World War 1 requirements
    2. Elise Myers
    3. I thought this was interesting and funny. It was posted on the Paris P-I website under the 90 years catergory. I have two relatives that served in WW1 . I, also, scrapbook, so this would be something of interest to include on their pages in my heritage / genealogy book about them. Just thought I would pass it along. Elise Requirements for active military were issued by the federal service. Among them were a sound mind capable of understanding; height between 5 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 6 inches; examination of eyes and check of ears by the whisper method; no heart or lung ailment or faulty healed fractures; must have at least four serviceable molars, two up and two down opposite each other; ability to jump up, kick heels behind, hop first on one foot and then the other, and make several standing jumps; and no flat feet

    1. [TNWEAKLE] 100th Anniversary Meridian Church Picnic
    2. MaryCarol
    3. The Meridian Church in southeast Weakley County is 181 years old. They celebrated their 100th anniversary of Meridian Picnics which in the past have helped to finance an endowment fund for the upkeep of the Meridian Church CEMETERY. Thanks to a generous estate gift recently, the cemetery should be in good shape for many years to come. In celebration of the 100 years people have been coming home for this annual July picnic, free pony, carriage, jumping and sliding rides and foods were provided this year. The potluck dinner under the shade of the old tree was a groaning board of favorite southern foods. Gospel music filled the air. A good time was had by all. Photos under Meridian Church - Churches of Weakley County. There are 3 photos per page http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/meridian_church.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/100th_Meridian_Picnic.html MaryCarol

    1. [TNWEAKLE] Using Rootsweb
    2. It occurs to me that maybe some folks on the list don't know all the ways you can use Rootsweb for getting information. We are very lucky on this list to have volunteers who work tirelessly to provide us with information that we couldn't get unless we bought the books or the films or spent hours in the library. Specifically, Lee Cate with single surname marriage, census and burials and Martha Smith with newspaper abstracts and obits through 1970. Others help, too, but these two are the most active in sharing their information. All of this information is stored and viewable at all times in the Rootsweb Archives, as well as every other email that comes through the list. There are two ways to use the Archives. You can Search them or you can Browse them. Go to Rootsweb.com and click Mailing Lists at the top of the page. That takes you to the "new" page for searching the Archives, but I prefer the "old" page. To get the old page, look for a light blue rectangle on the left top of the page and click on the link "clicking here." That takes you to a page where you can search a Surname only by choosing the first letter of that surname or you can choose a state, then a county in that state. So you would click on TN and then Weakley to search the Weakley Archives. On the TNWeakley-L page, you can Subscribe or Unsubscribe from the list and on the very bottom, you can Search or Browse the Archives. I use the Advanced Search and put the surname I want in the line that searches the Subject. That will get me all of Lee's posts for that surname (and any others who have put that surname into the subject of their email). There are lots of ways to search for the information you want. You need to play with it to see what it will do. When you Browse the Archives, the posts come up by year and month down to the last email posted. If you think that you haven't gotten any emails from the list and want to know if you've missed something, just Browse the list. All the posts from day one are there and posted in the order they came in. You can choose several ways to view them, but you will know immediately if there is activity on the List or not. And please remember that Rootsweb.com with the Mailing Lists, family trees, Freepages, and other links too numerous to mention, is paid for by Ancestry.com. So those who pay for the subscription to Ancestry are also paying to provide everyone with the free information and services on Rootsweb including this Mailing List which allows us to ask questions and share information about our ancestors. 3. PJ.... I am new to this board and probably jumped in a bit too soon but it felt comfortable here. I've learned a great deal of information in the short time I have been here by reading others posts. It is posts like the FTM I find very helpful and would think it would be pertain to genealogy. It is there a list of rules that can be posted for site questions? I would think questions about FTM would fall in the same category as discussions about the church vandalism. It is just plain discussion and nothing else. Please correct me if I am wrong.
