The email back and forth about the Bugger Saga and the Darnell incident is interesting. There was a Robert Meadows (see link) (stone reads) "Rob't Meadows that I found out about that was buried not too far from my home. The stories that are being emailed about this makes me wonder if Robert Meadows was also killed by the buggers. http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/civwar-usa-grave-meadows.htm David Montgomery -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "David Cagle" <dcagle1@charter.net> > Nena and Joyce, > Your discussion of Jordan Darnell is interesting. Hello all, I bought the book the "Buggar Saga" and have read most of it...sure puts a new spin on our perceptions of our ancestors! No where in this book does it mention J. W. Darnell. I wonder how I would go about finding out more information about who exactly was part of this "gang" of Union forces stationed at Collinwood. David you were right this was fascinating reading...a must for anyone who's ancestors were living in the area at the time. Nena
Nena and list members, I have also bought the book the "Buggar Saga" and have read about half of it. It certainly stirs up your imagination. My gg grandfather, John Worthen, lived in Wayne Co., at least 32 years and died in 1862, in TN. I would really like to know if he died of natural causes of if the "gang" or soldiers had anything to do with his death? I do know that John's youngest son, Jesses was later found down in Walker Co., AL. Jesse was about 10 years old when the Civil War started. His mother, Nancy P. Hardin and son John was not in the 1860 census. He married Mary Jane Kitchens in AL and had 4 children: John (died as infant abt 1875); Mary ma. Samuel Ray Hight; Rose Etta ma. Oliver Joseph Clark; no information on Mattie; and Aid. You can find more information on Jesse in the "Wayne County, Tennessee Families" book. James E. and Nancy M., children of John Worthen and listed on the 1860 census of Wayne co. seem to have vanished. James was old enough to serve in the later part of the war. If anyone has information on members of these families I would appreciate your response. Thank you, Barbara Warthen Wallace Subject: Re: [TNWAYNE] the Buggar Saga " I bought the book the "Buggar Saga" and have read most of it...sure puts a new spin on our perceptions of our ancestors!
