Thank you, Brenda. I visited the second site and found the Lawrence County Historical Society has a copy of Bugger saga for $15.00. Nena, think this is way to go. My copy is used. Jean Parsley I have a copy of "Bugger Saga". Didn't realize that it was out-of-print. Looked online and found these two sites that you might try. I am interested in the reason and the folks who left Wayne co. TN in early 1850 for Arkansas. Robert Worthen (living with Cypert) moved to AR and Wm. S. Warthen/Worthen seems to have moved from Wayne after 1850 census and was in the 1855 tax records in Collin County, TX. I suspect he was in AR for a short period. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Barbara Warthen Wallace
It was not just Arkansas it was all midwest states. My ancestors left Wayne County Tennessee from 1840 to 1846 and moved to Southern Illinois and around Cape Girardeau County Missouri. There was Land to be had never settled on. Moving to these areas they were the first to settle there and most used military grants to try and obtain land. They either bought portions of land sold by those who had recieved Land grants or had earned them theirselves. My Ancestors Simmons and Kerleys left Wayne county as did some other surnames as Merdith and Rose. My Harveys also left by 1846.
