Joyce, I was confused by some of the answers. I think the "once removed" is the fly in the ointment. If Joyce and Pat are children of first cousins, Ethel and Trilby respectively, then Ethel is 2nd cousin to Pat and Trilby is 2nd cousin to Joyce. Then Joyce and Pat are third cousins. Then Joyce and Pat would be 4th cousins to each other's children. Each generation adds another number. Question: My mother(Ethel) has a first cousin(trilby) They share a grandmother. (so they are first cousins.) Now Joyce is Trilby's first cousin once removed? They each have a daughter(Pat and Joyce) who share the ggrandmother. Does this make Pat and Joyce second cousins? joyce ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to TNWAYNE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message -- No virus found in this incoming message. Grandparents Brother Sister children are 1st cousins Brother Sister grandchildren are 2nd cousins But a first cousin of brother sister is first cousin once removed to the grandchild of the original set of grandparents You are only 1st, 2nd, 3rd, if you are of the same generation. If you go down to another generation making you 2 generations from common ancestor and the other cousin 3 generations from common ancestor, then you are 1st cousins once removed. -----Original Message----- From: tnwayne-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnwayne-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of David Cagle Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 6:13 PM To: tnwayne@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNWAYNE] Kinfolk?
