    3. I had to laugh too, for the simple reason that you can't hide a baby under the floor without him or her soon making their hiding place known at the top of their lungs. :0 So of course, she meant the baby's father, who was at home during the birth of the child, and while still at home had to hide from the soldiers, who probably came into the house. I know it could not have been funny to those who had to hide. Some must have been killed if they could not hide in time or were found. Great story! Glad it wasn't a tragic one. Were they "Johnny Reb" or Union troops? Useful things, those trap doors. Wonder why they went out of style? Wouldn't they have been a good thing to have during the Moonshine era? Anyone have any more stories like that one or Barbara's? Barbara Wallace's story is wonderful, too. My grandmother was a Holt before marriage and was born in Wayne County so I would love it if Barbara could find out the name of the lady who told her this story (if she can root out her notebooks without a lot of trouble), and Barbara, could I have a copy of the story?
