    3. As has already been posted to the list, "Buggar Sage" is available from Anderson's Bookland in Florence, AL and I think the Books-A-Million store there also has copies. It is my understanding that Anderson's bought the stock of the last printing of the book from Polly Warren's daughter. I don't know if they bought the rights to the book, but think that likely. Please use great caution when reading anything in "Buggar Saga". While some of the tales are true, the exact details are often colored by the intervening years and by Maurice's own mindset. Some of the tales are completely false and without primary source documentation to substantiate a tale, should not be taken as fact. 'Nuf said. Now I wish someone would do a factual, documented book on the "Clifton Shebang" - the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry. 3. Edgar, Just for good measure, lets throw in The 6th Tennessee US, 19th (Biffle's)CS and the First Confederate. You might find a few people that fought in two or three of these 4 units? Can many of those Pruitt tales be unraveled to get at the truth, such as the Brewer tale below? Would be interesting? David ----- Original Message ----- From: Edgar D. 3. David, I agree it would be nice to have detailed, documented histories of any of the units (USA or CSA) from this area. I'm surprised that no one has done anything with this other that William Morris who was and is working on the 2nd TN Mtd Inf. USA. Brent A. Cos did do a biography of Col. Jacob Barnett Biffle and I thought he also did a history of Biffle's Cavalry, but I can't find the information in my notes. It would be nice if we could get Cpt. T. J. Cypert's manuscript published since it deals with the 2nd TN Mtd Inf. I don't know whether he wrote it in 1868 during his first term in the Tennessee Senate or in the second term in the 1890's. I've seen it, but don't have a copy and the family guards them. There is so much history that hasn't been touched concerning the Civil War and the decades prior to it, in both Wayne and Hardin Counties. At least you all in Hardin County have Brazelton's history. The only thing we've got for Wayne is Meredith's manuscript in 1880 and the resulting section in Goodspeeds. It might be possible to determine a truer picture of some of the "tales" in Buggar Saga. Maurice's papers are supposedly in the UNA Library in Florence. I've not seen them, but understand that he did give them to UNA. That might help if you could decipher his codes and his "chicken scratching" -- the man definitely couldn't write a readable script. It would also require an indepth search of the Circuit Court Minutes in both Wayne County, Hardin County and Lawrence County in Tennessee as well as the Circuit Court minutes in Lauderdale. None of them are easy to work with. I don't remember if any of the minute books for Hardin County are missing, but there are one or two missing in Lawrence County. We have the books covering the period here in Wayne County, but none of the loose records survived the 1972 fire. Lauderdale County, Alabama is a mystery since I've not worked on their Circuit Court records. I understand that all the loose Circuit Court records are now stored in a warehouse in Florence and are not really accessible to the public. I've tried to get information through the mail and it was a futile exercise. I was trying to find out more about the "Caty Hills" and Grandma Catherine's activities during the period between 1854 and 1869 when she lived there and operated her "business". If would certainly be interesting to find an indictment against her for her "activities". If one could take a specific tale and then search the court records to see if anyone was ever charged, then a clearer picture might emerge. Maurice supposedly searched the Circuit Court records, but if he did, the information didn't make it into most of Buggar Saga. Some of the tales, especially those involving the 2nd TMI (the "Clifton Shebang") would require a thorough reading of all the pension applications submitted by members of the regiment. I only have about 100 of those applications out of over 900 which were filed. And I don't have many of the CSA pension applications. Anyway, I decline the nomination. I have the interest but not the energy to pursue this avenue of research. Edgar ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Cagle" <[email protected]> To: "Edgar D.
