In an e-Mail of 09/18/03 David Cagle wrote of an 1817 petition for the establishment of Wayne County. Does anyone know of or have a copy or even a source for a copy of that petition? If so, it may be of great interest to those of us who had ancestors in Wayne in that time-frame. My HUST/HURST ancestors were there in the 1820 census, but I have not been able to track their arrival in the area. Perhaps the document would help. In-any-case, the document would be of significant historical interest to me and, I suspect, to others. Jackie Wayne HURST

Jackie, Look on the Wayne County GenWeb site: http://www.netease.net/wayne/1819.htm This petition was probably made before Hardin County was established. I would estimate that perhaps as many ad 50 % of those listed were actually Hardin Countians. Several of my Hardin County ancestors are included, examples being: Henry Reynolds William Lacefield Jesse Lacefield Robert Lacefileld. Before Wayne was officially established, a petition was made to establish Hardin County which borrowed some of the land originally proposed for Wayne. Both counties were finally established in 1819.
