Griggs was sheriff of Wayne County in 1905--He capuured a rapist in Clifton, & later carried out the first legal hanging in Wayne County--I have the info the Clifton newspaper published of this event--The hanging was in Waynesboro --Feburary 9, 1906--John Griggs migrated to Wood County Tx.where he was a lawman. He`s buried in the Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro , Wood County Tx.--I live in Az. --Would like to contact someone who may have info on him, & what the Wayneboro newspaper published--He also ran for re-election of sheriff on the republican ticket in that year-- William [email protected]
