    1. [TNWAYNE] more Worthen/Hardin/Copeland/Dean information
    2. Answers to questions received this morning. The earliest record I found for John WORTHEN was that he borrowed money from Jesse CYPERT which was due in Jan 1838... which seems to be about the time he married second wife, Nancy P. HARDIN. They had Susan b 1838, Isaiah 1839, Jemima 1842, James 1845, Nancy 1848, John 1849, Jesse 1852. Nancy and her son John are not listed in the 1860 census so may have died. Mary J. WORTHEN LEE stated in an affidavit that Isaiah WORTHEN was her half brother; that and 7 years between the birth of Sarah 1831 and Susan E. 1838 suggest that the first wife died during that time. So Mary J. 1825, Phebe Ann 1827, * William S. 1829, Robert 1830, and Sarah M. 1831 would be the children from John's first marriage. My direct line is through John > *William S. > William A. WARTHEN> John's second wife, Nancy HARDIN was not the mother of my William S. so I would not be related to the Hardin line or the COPELAND line via my ggrandfather's second marriage to Margaret Elizabeth Cophen/Copeland. I agree the Wayne County families are difficult to deal with. For example John's daughter Sarah WORTHEN married John DEAN (his second wife) and moved to Perry County, TN. After the Civil war John's son Isaiah moved to Perry County and married his sister Sarah WORTHEN DEAN's step daughter Martha DEAN and they had 3 sons before she died. I am not sure that Nancy HARDIN is related to Lewis HARDIN but if so they may have been brother and sister. Nancy P. was 36 in 1850 so born about 1814. Do you know who were the parents and siblings of Lewis HARDIN? My ggrandfather, William S. WARTHEN b. 1829 (John's son) married 3 times. The first was Sarah Ann? in Wayne Co., within one year of the 1850 census. He married second to Elizabeth COPHEN/ or COPELAND after Dec. 1850 before 1854 but don't know if she was from Wayne County as he was in Collin Co., TX  tax records in 1854; this wife burned to death. I descend from his third marriage to Mrs. Letty May (?COLLINS) WILKINSON/WILKINS. Her 2 year old son's name was John WILKINS but the marriage Lic. states Letty May WILKINSON and some of the relatives say her maiden name was Collins. Who knows? Barbara Warthen Wallace
