I am posting this on the Wayne County Web site as well. Hopefully someone will find it useful. Hi Margaret, Good to hear from you and I appreciate the information on my gggrandfather, John Worthen. About this Factory Creek book you spoke of, is it a recent publication? Who wrote the article on John WORTHEN? I have known of the KILBURN connection for years but have not researched them myself. John WORTHEN b. 1784 in Virginia and his wife? Sarah Ann (I have never found a record that showed Sarah Ann married to John.) My ggrandfather, William S. WARTHEN was married to a Sarah Ann (unknown) in the 1850 Census but as far as I know there is no record of the name of his mother ... unless you have found proof. Actually, I think John was married to a Margaret as all of the first set of children named a daughter Margaret ... just a guess on my part. I did not know John settled in Wayne Co. in 1836 but figured it was around that time. I have no idea where he was prior to that. I also did not know they were living on the ridge at the very head of Kilburn Hollow (between the headwaters of Green River and Kilburn Branch , Double Branches and Sweetwater). I would like to locate that on the map so I could visit it next time I am in that area. True, I believe John & Jemima (WORTHEN) CYPERT to have been the children of James and Nancy (PUCKETT) WORTHEN but I have no proof that John was a son ... I guess he could have been a nephew. The heirs at the time of John's estate settlement: (I have added data to your data) 1. Mary J., born 1824/1825 in Tennessee. She married John W. LEE thought to be the son of Henry LEE and Dorcas COPELAND. 2. Phoebe Ann, born 1827, she married Josiah S KILBURN and they raised their family up Lee Holloe (now called Kilburn Hollow) near the head of the Factory 3. William Scott, born 1829: I submitted my ggrandfather's story on William S, who became a preacher, to the Wayne County History book several years ago. I noticed you had some wrong information on William S. WARTHEN: he moved to Collin County in 1854 then he moved to Grayson County, Texas and into the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) last, about 1892, He died in the Indian Territory in 1907. 4. Sarah J. born 1831: Sarah married John DEAN prob. in Wayne County. He had children from another marriage and I don't know if Sarah had children; they moved from Wayne to Perry County, TN before the war. Isaiah WARTHEN married first to John DEAN's daughter Martha. 5. Isaiah/Josiah, b. 1840 died in 1890 or 1891 in KY (need to look it up again) His story is coming out in the next Historian. He is not my direct line but because I traced his life I found that John WORTHEN's second wife (his Mother) was Nancy HARDIN. The following is a mistake which I put in print several years ago. Isaiah married Mrs. Melvina (RUTHLEDGE) WILSON not Melvina MOORE. They were living with an older Thomas MOORE in the 1880 census and I thought that was her father but I was wrong. 6. Jemima, born in 1842. She married William Daniel CLAYTON thought to be the son of William CLAYTON Jr. and Charity GOWER originally from Lawrence Co., TN. 7. James WORTHEN b. 1836: I have found nothing on him. There was a James WORTHEN from TN who was in the Civil War and I plan to research him soon. 8. Nancy b. 1838. Nothing found thus far but she may have gone to AL when little Jesse did or perhaps she went to live with the DEANs when her father died. 8. Susan married a BUTCHER; I have no idea what happened to her. Children not mentioned: -Robert WORTHEN who may have gone to AR with T.P. CYPERT around 1854 and was shown in his household in the 1850 Wayne County Census. -Jesse WORTHEN (a child) who spent the war days in AL and remained there until his early death. He married Miss KITCHENS in AL. CIVIL WAR: This family had men who fought on both sides of the war ... in fact Isaiah fought on both sides himself. He spent a year with the South and then joined the North and finished the war as a Union Soldier. Wm S. was in the Rebel army perhaps because he lived in Texas and it was not safe to be on the "other" side. Their father died in 1862 so missed most of that heartache. John WORTHEN acquired land from John WHITE in the 1840s and I have a feeling there is a family connection there. Hope we can continue to organize and share data. Barbara
