    2. Jane, You could save yourself a lot of trouble here by just sending the pictures on to Jerry Murphey on the Wayne Co. web site. Then everyone could log on and print them out. They have a good site. Lots of Hills & Normans there Wanda Norman **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

    3. Thanks for the very interesting information (even though it does make my poor old head swim, big grin), on the Coopers. Here's some more Balentine connections to people with the same surnames as you mentioned in your informative reply: A daughter of Carrie (Balentine) and W. M. Wright married a Davis. James P. Balentine's second marriage was to Nellie Davis. Susan Caroline, daughter of Richard Houston and Mary Ann (Cooper) Balentine, married William Iverson Barkley. Richard Houston and Mary Ann (Cooper) Balentine's son, Richard Houston, Jr, was married to Jennie Dulin. They were married by Benj. Martin, Minister. Richard Houston, Jr. and Jennie (Dulin) Balentine's daughter, Annie Balentine, married John Bell McGee. Richard Houston Balentine, Jr.'s second marriage was to Alice Martin. (third marriage was to a Hayes) Did you notice that on the 1870 Wayne County, TN 9th Civil District, George Washington and Martha J. Cooper and son George K. have their last name mispelled as Coopar? They seem to be living near the Samuel McFall family (lots of kids in the McFall family). On this same census for the 10th Civil District, there is listed a Benjamin, age 1. With brothers Elijah J. and George R., who may have had surname Martin. Could this be the above Benj. Martin, Minister? Did someone on this list mention the name Palmer? On the 1900 Mountian Township in what looks like Scott County, Arkansas, there is a Thomas Palmer, age 24, and wife Elizabeth, age 18. Both born in TN. Next to them is a L. R. Parker, age 23. Also born in TN. Gotta hunt up the aspirin. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: <tnwayne-request@rootsweb.com> To: <tnwayne@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 28, 2007 2:02 AM Subject: TNWAYNE Digest, Vol 2, Issue 195 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Can't find part of my data. Here is what little I have on Pigg that is connected to my Balentines: Clyde Pigg, born 1906, son of John Newton and Elpha Cornelia (Morrell) Pigg. He married Clura Ethel Scott, daughter of Leander Jefferson and Velma P. (Balentine) Scott. Clyde and Clura Ethel had a grandson who married a Holt. A son of Clyde and Cura Ethel married Alta J. Rich. I know there were a few more Pigg/Holt marriages, but don't have the information at hand at this time. Sorry I do not have anything onJohn Clayborn or Phoebe Caroline. But I do thank you for getting in touch. I just noticed that the 1900 Wayne County, District 10 Census was signed by a J. N. Pigg. Wonder if that was the John Newton Pigg mentioned above? 2. Hello Back to Steve Cooper and Others, Yes Steve, you are in a very special category all by yourself. You are your very own double cousin!!! You are a true Cooper if ever there was one, and a finer specimen of pure Cooper traditions, I have never known. I am so proud that you and my dad and others descended from Old Stephen Cooper, and Robert Lee and Gorman Cooper, descended from Old Samuel, all match on all 37 markers. Well, Gorman has a single mutation, with only 36 matches, but close enough for six generations. James Aaron Cooper recently tested, and he also matched on all 37 markers. He is a young guy and is descended from Old Stephen Cooper, through his son John, and John's eldest son, Wiley Allen. Wiley Allen Cooper of course, married Lucinda Martin, and they had a boy named John Wiley, who went to Oklahoma with some of the rest of the clan, including John Stephen, Thomas Asberry, Samuel Green, and my great grandfather, George Milton Cooper. But back to Wiley Allen, grandson of Old Stephen; Wiley Allen was taken prisoner during the Civil War, and was presumed dead, because he never returned home after the war was over. Eventually his young wife, Lucinda Martin Cooper, decided she was a widow, and married old John Darby. It was from this union that our beloved Grace Wright Carver is descended. Because of the marriage of Lucinda Martin Cooper and John Darby, her son, John Wiley Cooper is a half brother to her children by John Darby, therefore, her Darby grandchildren are first cousins to her Cooper grandchildren who moved to Indian Territory settling in the old Choctaw Nation near Gilmore, Oklahoma. John Wiley built a fine dogtrot type house with a tin roof, at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain on the west side, and the house still stands today, having been occupied now by four generations. His son, Robert E. Lee Cooper took the house over when John Wiley moved to California, where he spent the rest of his life. Speaking of double cousins, John Wiley was a first cousin to my grandfather, Robert Lee Cooper because their fathers, Wiley Allen and George Milton Cooper were brothers. John Wiley's son, Robert E. Lee Cooper married my Aunt Jo, who was a half sister to my grandmother Rose, who married my grandfather, Robert Lee Cooper. So, Robert E. Lee and Josephine Cooper's kids are double cousins with the children of Robert Lee and Rose cooper. All these folks are descended from old Stephen and Elizabeth Cooper who lived and died in district 10, near Cypress Inn, Wayne County, Tennessee. Stephen's older brother, Samuel, left Wayne County and moved to Searcy County, Arkansas in 1857. Some of his descendants still live on, and near his original land, and much has been written about the exploits of certain of his colorful descendants, especially during the Civil War. Many interesting connections... God bless the people. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

    3. Hi Barbara McGee and others: Your letter is very interesting with great information. I wrote another letter about Hill, Barkley and Cooper before I read your letter, so I am a little behind. Is their a chance that your COOPER family and my COOPER family might be related more than we know since I come from both sons ( Joseph Cooper and John Cooper ) of Stephen Cooper and Elizabeth ???????? . I think I come from the TV family " My Name is Earl ". I get much of my family tree info from that show. HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!--------------- uh, I started early. 3. Hi Jerilyn: I am interested in the HILL families of Wayne Co., TN because I know that my great great grandmother was Martha Ann Hill and she married Joseph Cooper. They were married in 1845 in Lauderdale Co., AL. They are buried at the Balentine Cemetery, Cypress Inn, TN and not far from the AL-TN state line. In over 20 years, I have not been able to place Martha Ann Hill with other Hill families. She would have been born about 1826. Recently while helping another person do some work on the Barkley family, I found out that George W. Barkley married Mary Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hill. I knew two of their daughters, Flora Barkley and Ida Barkley Clanton, wife of Reeder Clanton. Thirty some odd years ago, my half great Aunt, a descendant of Martha Ann Hill used to visit Flora Barkley. I had always thought of them as friends but now wonder if they were some type of cousins. Do you have anything on any of these Hill families ? Thanks, SteveCooper Cloverdale, Alabama ----- Original Message ----- From: <Jlktrees@aol.com> To: <tnwayne@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 26, 2007 8:32 PM Subject: Re: [TNWAYNE] [MOCLAY] [TENNESSEE] Researchers-Surname List > I have Hills from Wayne Co., Tennessee.
