    3. Cathy, Flatwoods Cemetery is in Perry County, Tennessee. You need to find the Perry County TN GENWEB Project, and Perry County Tennessee Cemetery Records. (I didn't know if I was allowed to send an url to the list, so am sending you this info by piece-meal. I did a Google search for Flatwoods Tennessee Cemetery. When you get to the list, look under Buffalo River Watershed Eastside. Flatwoods Cemetery is at the bottom of that list. If this doesn't work, I can send you the info by private email. My grandparents, great grandparents, and other related folks are buried there. I've been there several times, because we aren't located too terribly far away. My ancestors there are Graves, Treadwell. 3. Jane and Barbara, As to "No good deed goes unpunished", I was thinking the same last night as I read the emails. I appreciate Jane's good heart and intention. I wish some of the list would think twice before complaining! Has the Christmas spirit departed so soon? If I'm not interested in a list email, I don't consider it cluttering my mailbox. I use my delete button. I do think the list administrator could have come in earlier to save Jane and others a lot of grief. Jerry, were you still celebrating Christmas or New Year's? Lol Happy New Year to everyone. Try a little patience and tolerance in dealing with others. A little goes a long way. 1. [TNWAYNE] Family Photos
    2. Jane Foley
    3. Family Photos Family Photos Family photos in a box Not real sure of what I've got. Old tin type of someone now gone No one remembers her favorite song. Man in a suit by a beautiful new wife. Wish I knew where he fit in my life. And then there's a photo of them with a baby- Was that their newborn or a nephew, maybe? Young boys in dresses? I guess that was the style But today we laugh And think it was wild! An elderly couple in vintage dress I have no idea who they were I confess! I wish I could go back to someone who knew And ask them to tell about these folks that they knew! I wish I could know how they thought And just how was life For that beautiful bride As a mother and wife! As I put photos away in a hurry and rush And say it doesn't matter and What is the fuss If I label and journal and store acid free I remember the box That was left to me. I wish I knew the people these strangers in the box, their names and all their memories are lost among my socks. I wonder what their lives were like. How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time to tell who, what or when, these faces of my heritage would come to life again. Could this become the fate of pictures we take today? The faces and memories someday to be passed away? Make time to tell your stories. seize the opportunity when it knocks. Or someday you and yours could be The strangers in the box. Author Unknown

    1. [TNWAYNE] New Year's Eve 1852
    2. Jane Foley
    3. It is New Year's Eve, 1852 and John Smith sits at his desk byIt is New Year's Eve, 1852 and John Smith sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions: ********************************** 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row. 3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list the same age or birth year twice on any document. 4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child will not be baptized at all, or will be baptized by an itinerant minister who keeps no records. 5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least once every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking silly questions. 6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years. 7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in record keeping or in participating in military service. 8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink. 9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another Mary. 10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer. 11. I resolve to not clutter up the good farm pasture with headstones, that will just get broken or fade with time anyway. 12. I resolve to protect my family and friends privacy, by giving false names and places for events. 13. I resolve to never give the correct accounts of misdeeds in the family, so when Uncle Lem shot that guy and was tried for murder, my kids will be told he stole a cow. 14. I resolve to never trim the family cemetery of brush and tangle weed, to keep out any one doing that silly Genealogical work. 15. I resolve to always alternate my kid's and wife's first and middle names when the census taker comes around, just to give him practice with his spelling. 16. I resolve to come from Ireland (where there are no records, or, if there are, they can only be examined by visiting the exact village, pleading with the local clergy (who is hostile to anyone not of his belief which of course you are) and/or handing over a fee equal to or exceeding your yearly income for one hour's research which may not find anything.) 17. I resolve that not only shall I NOT die in my country of birth, but that nor shall my children (yea verily) unto the sixth generation. 18. I resolve that I shall call my children by odd names which the enumerator shall spell incorrectly. 19. I resolve that I shall be absent on the night of the census. 20. I resolve that if unable to be absent on census night I shall endeavor to be enumerated twice. 21. I resolve that when I die my children/wife are instructed to give the wrong details for my death certificate. 22. I resolve that I and most of my family shall die suddenly just before death certifications started to be used, in a parish where easy access to the records ceased the previous year. ************************************

    2. Jane Foley
    3. Jack, I apologize for the inconvenience of you and others having to delete the emails you don't want in your inbox. I didn't realize the response that my posting would get. It has been overwhelming to me also. I have received HUNDREDS of emails and have spent over 19 hours trying to keep my word to people who have requested these items. I thought I was just making a nice gesture by sharing these items with serious genealogy researchers. I thought it might add something to their notebooks. My original posting had asked for permission to post but it is a busy time of the year and the administrator either didn't read it or misunderstood it. A couple of years ago I got into trouble by posting to a website (not this website) something such as this without permission from the administrator and rootsweb. I got into big trouble. I do not want that kind of HEAT AGAIN!!!! I will be glad to post these to the website BUT WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE ADMINISTRATOR. I posted this on Friday at 9:44 AM. It may seem like SEVERAL DAYS to you as it does to me. And I guess it is by now since this is Wed. morning. I have found that people DO NOT READ THEIR EMAILS. I have had all kinds of crazy requests which I HAVE ANSWERED INDIVIDUALLY AND EXPLAINED OVER AND OVER! I thought my posting was self explanatory but to many it wasn't. Some thought I had a book. Many thought I had pictures, pictures, pictures. NO, NO, NO!!! People got all 3 mixed up and made strange requests. I have even had people hit "forward" with a blank email and expect me to know what they want. And the list goes on. So I am very frustrated as well that people don't read correctly!!!!! It has been unreal but very enlightening. Sooooooooooo, if an administrator will contact me and give me permission, I will be glad to put them on the website or I give them permission to put them on the website. I hope this solves the problem. I hope you and others NOW understand. I will continue to send these items to people who request them from me. One other quick note, in my original posting I told people to contact me and I would send them directly the items which I have. I didn't think about asking them to contact me directly. You know what they say about hindsight. I had no idea I was going to get such a response. So, Jack, will you forgive me for the inconvenience I have caused you??? 2. How about sending them to thr Administrator and asking him if they are appropriate for the site, which I believe they are, and giving him permission to post the items. The poems have encapsulated some of the problems and articulated in a droll way the frustrations many of us have. Like history, some of the more interesting aspects are not always the specific events, but how the events or results may have evolved. 3. Do you have any Worthen's (any spelling) in your Scott line? My ggrandfather from Wayne County, TN was named either William SCOTT Warthen or William Sims Warthen. His brothers and sisters married into many of the Wayne Co., families; Lee, Kilburn, Copeland and Dean. W.S Warthen's half siblings married; Butcher, Dean, Rutledge, Clayton, and his step mother was Nancy Hardin. Thanks, Barbara Warthen Wallace ----- Original Message ----- From: "jpeck612004" <jpeck612004@xanadoo.com> To: <tnwayne@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2007 6:54 PM Subject: Re: [TNWAYNE] Surnames Scott,Duren,CATES,Berry, >I am searching all these names in Wayne county I would love to have some > pictures of My Duren side and My Scott side > any help I thank you for Jalena > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > TNWAYNE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I would certainly like to post these on line but cannot do so without permission from the administrator as I have gotten myself into a lot of trouble before with rootsweb and SOME administrators a couple of years ago. Not this administrator however. I have received hundreds of requests and have spent more than 17 hours trying to honor my word in sending the 3 items. This has been a nightmare. I had no idea that the response would be so great! If the administrator will give me permission, I will be glad to post them on line. 1. [TNWAYNE] Sarah Emeline Banks
    2. Teresa Smoke
    3. I am hoping that someone may know who the parents of Emeline Banks (B. 3 May 1882 D. 24 Jan 1970) are. She married Spencer Newton Cummings. I was told by my mother in law that her brother was Tommy Banks. I don't have any other info on him except his name. I was also told that they their mother was a Reeves. Any help would help? Thanks in advance, Teresa

    3. Jane, thanks so much for sending the articles. I wonder if you would permit me to post them on my own Shannon County, Missouri website? I don't mind getting my mailbox 'cluttered'. Sometimes I pick up some info I needed on Wayne County families to fill in some blanks in my own database.
