Jerry, wasn't sure which address to send this to. I am currently working on cemetery transcriptions for Shannon Co MO and have this list for the Cooper Cemetery at Winona. Thank you, Brenda. I visited the second site and found the Lawrence County Historical Society has a copy of Bugger saga for $15.00. Nena, think this is way to go. My copy is used. Jean Parsley I have a copy of "Bugger Saga". Didn't realize that it was out-of-print. Looked online and found these two sites that you might try. I am interested in the reason and the folks who left Wayne co. TN in early 1850 for Arkansas. Robert Worthen (living with Cypert) moved to AR and Wm. S. Warthen/Worthen seems to have moved from Wayne after 1850 census and was in the 1855 tax records in Collin County, TX. I suspect he was in AR for a short period. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Barbara Warthen Wallace

Jane, According to Barton Brosen's Ancestry World Tree, Wilburn Samuel Keeling was born 1 Sep 1873 in Barry Co, MO. He did not list a source for that. Wilburn died 26 Dec 1952. He lists Benjamin Franklin Keeling as being born in Washington Co, AR on 8 Dec 1871 and dying in Barry Co;, MO. If you have Ancestry access, here is the site: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=brorsen&id=I06306&printer_ friendly I only have seven of the twelve children. Would you be so kind as to list the children and their birth/death dates. Thank you Claudia, but I would rather buy a copy if at all possible. So Mary Nell Hollis Franks, what website were you referring to? And David, I wished I could talk to one of Billy's family members...I understand he has a widow? I sure hope someone of that family inherits all his research...and is willing to share the information. I spoke to Shirley Ann Hollis last weekend, author of the book "Factory Creek". (I was ordering the book.) I ask her about the "mistake" in the book of naming Jordan W. Darnell, born 1808..."Bob". (She said most of the Darnell information came from Billy Darnell). She said it was not a mistake, that his name was Robert Jordan Darnell...the only record I have found that shows him as Jordan W. Darnell is their marriage record...all other census records states: Jordan Darnell. Thank you for information on the 2nd Mounted and the bushwhackers! Now I know for sure I want that book. The J. W. Darnell of the 5th Tennessee Infantry CSA, I agree could be Jordan Darnell. However, it is believed that Jordan (Sr) died around 1856. So it must be his son Jordan, who was a Corp in the 2nd TN Mtd Inf, Union, Co. B. Nena

Don't go blaming poor Betty for the posting. I posted it. I certainly wasn't trying to help that site sell books, I was just letting Betty know that Arkansas did, in fact, sell land cheap, as well as donate land and that she could look for her surnames in the indexes to each county on the site. I didn't buy the books, myself, but still found the "Bit" of information and the indexes useful. If your surnames are not there, then your relatives probably didn't buy "swamp land" or receive "donated land." If you want a website with the information without buying anything, you will have to go hunting for it, just like I spent years hunting for information on my Wayne County kin, and shelling out big bucks in what more often than not, turned out to be "wild goose" chases. But that's the nature of Genealogy. I think our Dearly Departed planned it that way, just to insure they would have entertainment on the other side (they probably heard there's no television over there [grin] ). Hope I got you off-the-hook, Betty. Jo Ann
Nena and Joyce, Your discussion of Jordan Darnell is interesting. My good friend Billy Darnell wrote the 1994 article in the Wayne County Historian that was mentioned. Bill passed away about 3 or 4 years ago. I too had relatives that were in the 2nd Mounted. A little research shows that several members of the 2nd were killed by guerillas during the war. I think the term bushwhackers or guerrillas can refer to either side depending on which side you are on. Bert Hays (CSA) appears to have gotten credit for most of the bushwhacking that went on in Hardin and Wayne Co. Others accused Branson Davis (2nd Mounted) of the same atrocities. The Confederate sympathizers didn't like Capt. Risden DeFord of the 6th Cavalry, who according to Wade Pruitt in "Buggar Saga," made life miserable for the southern side in the Hardin Co. area. There was a J. W. Darnell in the 5th Tennessee Infantry CSA early on. I don't know if this could be Jordan Darnell. I know we discussed that possibility several years ago. Some early recruits who joined the Confederate Army (sometimes against their will) later joined units like the 2nd Mounted which was formed in 1863 and stationed at Clifton. I think "Buggar Saga" is out of print. The last copy I bought was from the book store in the Cox Creek Mall at Florence. That is correct, Joyce. That is what was "published" about my ancestor. But that is NOT what REALLY happened. He was sick and missed his "muster out" date...so he returned home...to Wayne County....There "confederate gorilla's" captured him and took him to the McClammery (?) farm. There they "killed" him and "indecently" buried him in a shallow grave, putting up a "picket" around him. His mother, Elizabeth Bennett Darnell and friends went to retrieve him but the confederate's would not let her in. Later, upon hearing of another encroachment of arms, the confederates fled, which allowed my g g great grandmother to go in an collect her son's remains and bury him decently. G G Great Grandmother had to go to court and prove her relation to her son...in doing so...all is a matter of court record. Don't stop me...I'm on a roll! Looking for any information on Martha Howard, born about 1859 (in Wayne Co., I think)...siblings....Samuel W. Howard, born 1850 in Alabama, Mary F. Howard, born 1854 in Miss., Rebecca Howard, born in 1859 in Tn...(probably Wayne Co) Parents were J. W. Howard, born 1822 in S.C. and Elizabeth M. (Unknown), born 1832 in Alabama. They seem to be a family of means...the 1860 Census of Wayne Co, Tn, Factor's Fork shows he had $1000 worth of real estate and $500 worth of personal property. Any clues welcome Nena
