Or maybe there was a larger cemetery named Hope Cemetery and they called this one "little" meaning "smaller" to distinguish between the two??? Marcia, excuse me i have been in such a deep dig today that I cannot think. (You are correct about H.D.Allen and Mary) Now the document that I sent you a copy of from this book that Henry Davis Allen married Mary (Polly) Barnes is on the Internet in Sumner County TN., on their marriage records. They lived in Lauderdale Ala, and that is where Sarah ALLEN was born. this is what is happening to my family........we have a match but it is NOT on the ALLENS it is a HOLT.......problem is the HOLT only match with the ALLENS............SO the DNA suggests that there is another or possibly another name that is the real Ancestor. I tried not to get in a ditther about this but it is so puzzling! So please excuse me for responding in such a way! FROM THE BOOK by Granville O. Allen. Henry D. ALLEN b Edgecomb Co NC 26 Mar 1782, died Lauderdale Ala May 25, 1873. He married Mary (Polly) BARNES on Dec 18 1804, in sumner co TN., Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Selah DELOACH BARNES. This is in the Sumner Co ARchives, it has a number on the document......next time I go to that I will get the document number. sorry.........about all of this...........jal M J CUSSINS <mjcussi@q.com> wrote: You wrote: > Henry Davis Allen m. I would like to know the very early history of the Hollis/Holly Creek Cemetery. Does anyone know whose land it was taken from and who was probably buried there first? I think that James Hollis Sr. who died 7/1843 and wife Sarah Choate Hollis who died abt 1842 were buried there in now unmarked graves. This is probably who the Cem. was named for. James H. Gambrell married Louisa Jane Hollis (the grandaughter of James and Sarah Choate Hollis). The majority of the persons buried in this cemetery are descendants or married descendants of James and Sarah Choate Hollis. Any help will be appreciated. Mary Nell Hollis Franks

William Hayes b 1825, Sallie Allen b. 1829, my info is that they both were born in Wayne county TN., One of their daughters married (Mary) married James Shelton ALLEN and lived in Lawrence Co Tn., Also, this group of Hayes went to Texas and that is where most of them stayed and were buried except William and Sarah (sallie). I am trying to help one of his gggranddaughers and do not have the info at hand at this time. William R. Hayes died before the 1890 Census, and they were living in Maury County, they had about 15 children and their list is in my closet. By this time they were just about grown.........William was called "Billy", and Sarah was called "Sallie" she was an Allen born in Wayne county and they moved to Lewis, into Lawrence then Maury. I will get the info and get back to you.........I appreciate your response. Sincerely, Joyce A. On the above list there is the family of Robert Allen and on of the children was listed as Berry b. 1852...........we have finally corrected this and he was Addison Perry ALLEN b. 1852. Thanks, Joyce --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
