Noticing the pension of some of the Civil War veterans,(Union) When the wives applied for a pension for herself and children, they had to have proof of marriage and in some cases they listed the numbers of the pension which the wives and children received. also, the application was signed by the midwife: Certified birth of children. I am not sure if this was just for the Union soldiers and/or if this also applied to the Confederates. Joyce

On the 1850 census of WAyne Co TN Howell is listed as born in N.C., and birthdate as 1800? Other information is that he was born in S.C. abt. 1796? Do you know if Anna and Howell had other children? Elizabeth was the daughter of Howell ALLEN and Anna GREEN of Wayne County Tn.,( her name was Frances Elizabeth ALLEN) She married a Rufus BROWN, do you know if she married in Wayne county TN or in Arkansas? joyce
I believe that the ALLENS in Wayne County, were a very large clan, they were connected by Howell and Robert ALLEN. Howell was in Lauderdale County where Robert married his first wife; Elizabeth........was her maiden name ADAMS? Was she a sister to Sarah BRADLEY? Who married Robert shortly after Elizabeth's death? She died in Wayne county tn,....did they return her to Alabama for burial or was she buried at Cypress Inn. Elizabeth and Robert had two sons; William Thomas Allen b 1849 and Addison Perry Allen b 1850. Joyce
Howell (Hal) Allen and Anna Mittie Green were both from South Carolina..........they married in S C or TN. Would like to know if they had children other than the two daughters that were born in Lauderdale Ala., Anna died 1850 Wayne Co Tn, She was abt 45 years of age, Howell was born abt. 1796-1800 in SC. Armittie Apaline Allen b. 1834 Ala. Frances Elizabeth Allen b. 1843 Ala I believe that Robert ALLEN was a son of Howell and Anna, no proof of that at this time. Robert was born in S.C. abt. 1827-1830 After Anna died Howell returned to S.C., and married Lucinda Whitt, daughter of John Whitt and Elizabeth Reese. Howell and Lucinda had three children: Martha b. 1857. Nancy b 1859, William b. 1862. Howell died prior to the 1870 Census of Anderson County ......no record of his death or where he is buried. Of course this was during the Civil War period and records could have been lost. If you have info on this family I would appreciate hearing from you. joyce

I though some of the readers might be interested in the enclosed photos which are of the original Thomas Jefferson Lawson's log cabin on Bear Creek, Lutts, TN. The photos were taken in the summer of 1977 and as you can see the log cabin had been updated over the years but was then being used as a barn for storage by the farmer who owned or farmed the land. I have heard that now it is torn down and removed.

Ken, Howell Allen married Anna Mittie GREEN, she died in September of 1850 of September fever. (The descendants of Anna believe that she was Cherokee). Howell left Wayne County Tn went to Belton, Anderson Co SC. married Lucinda WHITT. He had two daughters which he left in Wayne co it is not clear who the daughters stayed with. In the census of Wayne County(1850) it lists Adeline and Elizabeth, which is partly correct........Adeline was actually Armettie Apaline ALLEN b. abt 1834 Alabama & Frances Elizabeth ALLEN b. abt 1843 Alabama. Apaline married John Staggs, when he died she married Ruben Brown. Frances married Louis Tiller. I am in touch with a direct descendant of Armettie Apaline ALLEN and it is believed that HOWELL was Hal's middle name and his first name was William.......that HOWELL was his mother's maiden name. Also, another correction is that Howell was born in S.C., instead of N.C., According to information on the Internet I have Ancestry World Tree Project in the Bently,Davis, Bennett and Nodine branches: Howell and Lucinda had three children: Martha, b 1857, Nancy, b. 1859 and William b 1862. This needs to be checked out. Information I have comes from a direct descendant of Amittie Apaline ALLEN STAGGS.
