Who were the parents of Jesse Cypert born about 1820 ? This came from Goodspeed Izard County Ark. Jake Thomas P. Cypert was born in Wayne County, Tenn., in 1820, his parents, Jesse and Jemima (Worthen) Cypert, being Virginians by birth. To them were born seven sons and four daughters: Nancy, Elizabeth, John, Zacharias, William, James W., Thomas P., Robert J., Jesse Newton. Sarah W. and Felicia Ann. At an early day the parents moved to Wayne County, Tenn., where they entered land, and followed the occupation of farming for many years. The father served in the War of 1812.and died in Tennessee in 1856, and his wife in 1853. Thomas P. Cypert embarked in life for himself in 1842. following the occupation of farming, and by energy and good management has become the owner of 160 acres of land, fifty of which are under cultivation and are devoted to the cultivation of corn, cotton and small grain. He also raises considerable stock. In 1861 he enlisted in the infantry under Capt. Deuson, and was with the troops stationed at Bowling Green, Ky., during that year, but after participating in the battle of Shiloh, the following year he was discharged, and upon returning resumed farming, which occupation has since received his attention. He has been a resident of Izard County, Ark., since 1852, and is considered by all one of its industrious and enterprising citizens. The year 1846 witnessed his marriage to Miss Temperance Brown, a daughter of Levi Brown, by whom he became the father of eleven children: John T., Sarah A., Delphina, Mary, Levi J., Jesse N., Jemima C., Mack, Lydia, George W., Emma F., Levi and Jesse (twins).
Do any of you have any Pulleys. I am seeing the name Green as first and middle for several Pulleys from Wayne County. Thank you. Paula P. Martin

Jenny, I don't have a Green Burgess in my list, but it could be. The Hills were constantly using the name Green for names. Mary Hill who married Thomas Burgess had a brother John Green Hill. I only have three children listed for Tom and Mary Burgess. These names came from the court case having to do with the minor children left by Mary (Polly) Burgess when she died between June 1850 and 1853. I can't find the article right now. Didn't put it in the computer yet. For children I have Mary Virginia Burgess who married Thomas H. Tibbs Lucinda Emaline Burgess who married James Henely Morlan John Hill Burgess who married Mary C. Williams I haven't had time to chase any of these down, but will after my daughter's wedding the 18th. Wayne Co., Tennessee is south and just a little west of Williamson Co. Not too far apart. Think there is a county in between, but don't have a map handy right now and must get back to cleaning for the wedding. I am keeping your information handy though as just might be a connection. Jerilyn

Would it be possible to give us the names of the children of Martha Ann Hill and Joseph Cooper? This might make it easier to try and fit in a family. I have a lot of Hills that I don't have spouses for and since names run in families I thought this might help anyone looking. Good luck. Jerilyn
Searching for descendants Martin Lamb and Frances Hill who were married October 31, 1816, in Williamson Co., Tennessee. The family was later in Wayne Co., Tennessee, but might have been just a boundary change. Thanks. Jerilyn
I am searching for any descendants of Thomas Burgess and Mary Hill. They were married probably before 1825 in either Tennessee or Alabama. If in Tennessee, it was probably in Wayne Co., which lost its records. Thomas died young and seemingly Mary didn't live but 2 or 3 years later-both around 1850. Children were put in care of Mary's siblings. Again, any help would be appreciated. Jerilyn
Searching for anyone who is working on the John G. W. Bivens and Naomi Hill family. They were married on March 21, 1824, in Wayne Co., Tennessee. I have the names of 3 children and that is all. Any help would be appreciated. Jerilyn

I need help with a Martha Ann Hill. She married Joseph Cooper in 1845 at Threets, Alabama. Threets is about 12 to 15 miles northwest of Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama. It is about 4 miles west of Cloverdale, Alabama and about 3 or 4 miles south of the Alabama-Tennessee state line. In about 12 years of research, I have never been able to find who were the parents of Martha Ann Hill. She and husband Joseph Cooper, both died in the early 1890's and are buried just acoss the state line into Wayne County, Tennessee at the Balentine Cemetery, near Cypress Inn, Tennessee. It is now my guess that she may have not been a Hill, but had been married earlier to a Hill and that in her marriage to Joseph Cooper, she is listed as a Hill. Does anyone have in their Hill family records from probably Lauderdale County, Alabama or Wayne County or Hardin County, Tennessee a MARTHA ANN (Unknown) that married an (Unknown) HILL. This would have to be late 1830's or early 1840's, because of her age. Thanks. Hi Pam, Mahala Eliza Brown was the daughter of Nathaniel Young Brown (1820-1865) and Elizabeth Emily Lawson (1832-1910). They were married 22 September 1849 in Itawamba County, Mississippi and were residing in Wayne County, Tennessee by 1850. Nathaniel Young Brown was the son of Andrew Brown (b. 1790 SC) and Elizabeth Young (b. 1799 SC, dau of Nathaniel Young and Jemima Young). They were married 15 August 1817 in Maury County, Tennessee. They moved to Wayne County, Tennessee in the early 1830s and on to Itawamba County, Mississippi after 1840. Elizabeth Emily Lawson was the daughter of Amos Banks Lawson (b. 1789 SC) and Elizabeth Hughes. They sold their land in Wayne County, Tennessee in 1833 and moved to Itawamba County, Mississippi and moved back to Wayne County, Tennessee in late 1849. The children I have for Nathaniel Young Brown and Elizabeth Emily Lawson were: 1. Emily Jane Brown, b. Feb 1850 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 29 Nov 1866 Wayne County, Tennessee to J.W. Helton. 2. Mahala Eliza Brown, b. 1851 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. 10 Dec 1868 Wayne County, Tennessee to Zachariah Taylor Helton. 3. Robert A. Brown, b. 1854 Wayne County, Tennessee; m. Clara M._______. 4. Desdemona Alice Brown, b. 1857 Wayne County, Tennessee. Hope this helps. Jerry W. Hi List, Mary Jane Dixon and James K. "Poke" Thurman were married Oct. 3, 1880 and lived in Wayne Co. until moving to Oklahoma. I have been told that James died in Oklahoma Nov. 1918 and Mary Jane died Oct. 1940 but were both buried in McGlamory Cemetery at Collinwood. Two questions Who in Wayne County could I contact for the burial records? Where in Oklahoma were this family located (for death records)? Thanks for any help you can give. Lenore Geller

Can anyone tell me about the HAYES CEMETERY (#223) that appears on the Cemetery List on the Wayne County, TN website? I am a Hayes by birth and have ancestral roots in both Wayne and Lewis Counties where at least two generations on my great grandparents lived before part of the family migrated to Ellis County Texas in the late 1880s. My brother and I are anticipating a trip to Tennessee in the fall to tour the area where our forebears lived. We would be interested in including the HAYES CEMETERY in our visit if it is publicly accessible, or if we could obtain permission if it is privately owned. I believe that the following family from the 1860 Wayne County Federal Census is the household of my GG Grandparents and the their son, John, is my great grandfather. Is there a present community called Cromwell's Mill? Can anyone tell me how to pinpoint the location identified on this census? I have found Wesley Martin in every available Wayne Co., TN census from 1850 to 1900. His parents are William and Salina Martin. In 1870 she is listed as Perlina. This family lived in the Cypress Inn area, first in the 10th C. D. and later in the 9th C. D. Wesley was a pvt. in "H" Company of the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry. He enlisted on 9 December 1863 at age 18. Who were Wesley's ancestors? Anyone have this line? Thanks, David
