    3. Yvette, This motel is on US Highway 64 about 2 miles west of Waynesboro. It was remodeled about three years ago-should be nice. There are several motels in Savannah which is also on US Highway 64 about 30 miles west of Waynesboro. 3. Allow me to add my vote of appreciation for the work added by Gerald K. Moore Knowing the effort required to transcribe just the entries for my own ancestors, I have great admiration for anyone who has the ability and endurance to tackle a whole census. And the analysis is great, and educational goldmine. Thank you. Marcia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edgar D. 3. Fantastic new additions to the Wayne County, Tennessee Genealogy and History page this week. Thanks to Gerald K. Moore, we have posted the complete listings from the following for Wayne County, Tennessee http://www.netease.net/wayne/census.htm 1860 Census of Manufactures (the manufacturer's schedule from the 1860 census) 1860 Census of Agriculture (the agricultural schedule from the 1860 census) 1870 Census of Agriculture (the agricultural schedule from the 1870 census). These three files represent hours of transcription and are some of the most fascinating information available. From the agricultural files, learn how many horses and mules an ancestor owned; what money crops he raised and how much he/she got them them. Did he raise cotton or tobacco? Very special thanks to Gerald K. Moore for sharing this information with us. Also read his analysis that begins each of these schedules. Very interesting reading. 1. [TNWAYNE] James West, Wayne Co. TN
    2. Hi Mary: I don't have anything new that would help either of us. You are right about the James WEST age 64 in the 1850 Wayne Co. Census. He is my ancestor, and I have him in Cannon Co. TN in 1840 and Warren Co. TN in 1830. I haven't found parents or any siblings for this James WEST. I have him marrying Mary STANFIELD in Randolph Co. NC in 1809. The next documentation is the 1830 Warren Co. TN Census. The family was apparently in GA around 1820, since two of the children later list their birthplace as GA. The STANFIELD family moved to SC around 1800, so if there is a longer association between these families it is possible that relatives of my James WEST may have been in SC around the same time. My evidence is only circumstantial, but every clue I find reinforces the family lineage. Thetis WEST living adjacent to James WEST in 1850 is, I believe, Felix WEST - there is a smudge on the microfilm over the first name. Felix is a son of James WEST. The first William WEST that you list is a son of James WEST and brother of Felix (his age is 38 not 58, I have reviewed the microfilm). The William WEST who is listed as tavern keeper, I cannot connect to. In the county court records Fielder WEST is really Felix WEST, and I have connected Pleasant and Cyrus/Si WEST as sons of James WEST also. I have nothing on the WEST surname in Wayne County earlier than about 1848. Nothing on Archible, Samuel, Lea, or S.P. WEST. I have exchanged info with Terry Ceballos on her Woodson WEST. She does not have his parents, and we cannot find a relationship to any of the other WESTs in Wayne Co. Dennis West in Knoxville, TN ============== Mary Hill wrote: I am searching for James West, born sometime between 1794- 1798 in SC. I have not been able to trace him back past 1850 with proof. I have corresponded with Dennis West in the past and was not able to link up to his family, but was hoping that perhaps he may have some new leads that might tie us in. /snip/

    3. I am searching for James West, born sometime between 1794-1798 in SC. I have not been able to trace him back past 1850 with proof. I have corresponded with Dennis West in the past and was not able to link up to his family, but was hoping that perhaps he may have some new leads that might tie us in. According to a son of James West he was born in SC but grew up in TN. James West is first located in Itawamba Co. MS in 1850. James son says his father was married twice and had five children by his first wife. He does not mention the first wife's name or the names of the five children. In searching all the Census records beginning in the year 1820 and found that there were NO West families in the 1820 census. In the 1830 census, I found a James West in Wayne County TN that fits my James age and shows that there are 4 children in the household.. If this is my James West, the fifth child was born probably after 1830. There is only one WEST listed in the 1830 census. The James West listed in the 1830 Wayne Co. TN census is age 30-40. That would make birth year somewhere between 1790-1800. The James West listed in the 1850 census is age 64, making birth year about 1786. I believe that the James West is the 1830 census is not the same one as in the 1850 census because of the age difference. I believe the James West listed in the 1830 census moved to Itawamba Co. MS by 1840. There is a James West on the 1836 Tax List. Archible West appears on the 1838 Tax List along with a Woodson West. Archible West listed as being a member of the Union Baptist Church (Records 1825-1888, Vol 9 Num 2), where three West brothers were referred to be baptized the next meeting. It does not mention the "three West brothers" name. Archible is not listed in the census years 1820-1830. 1840 Census shows only one WEST, that being Woodson West 100001-/20001- (1 male less than 5, 1 male 30-40, 2 female less than 5, 1 female 30-40). According to posting by Terry Ceballos ([email protected]), says that Woodson West married Martha Casteel before 1836 and moved to Johnson Co. IL by 1850. http://ceballos.freeyellow.com/ 1850 Wayne Co. 3. I've added several more obituaries to the obituaries page and another picture to the School Days page. I've been clipping obituaries for Wayne County natives since 1966. I'll be posting all those obituaries are I have time. If you have an obituary you'd like to contribute, go the Obituaries page at http://www.netease.net/wayne/obituaries.htm and click on "Submit An Obituary" A create mail or new message window will pop up and all you will need to do is type (or paste) the obituary into the message block, and send the message. The message will be addressed to me and will already have a subject "Wayne County Obituary". As I receive the messages I will post the obituaries to the page. Obituaries of Wayne County, Tennessee citizens or natives (regardless of where they died or were living when they died) and regardless of the date of the obituary, will be posted. The only limitation is that there must be a connection to Wayne County, Tennessee. Please copy the obituary exactly as it appears in the original regardless of spelling or gramatical errors. If you know of a spelling error, please indicate that error with the use of [sic] following the error. Please include any notes regarding the obituary in parentheses ( ). Please include the name of the newspaper or publication in which the obituary was published (if known) and the date and page of the publication (where known) If you have access to original or microform copies of newspapers from this area (including Nashville, TN newspapers) and are interested in transcribing any obituary of a Wayne County, TN citizen or native, please accept my invitation to do so! This page could become one of the more important pages about the county. The more contributors we have, the mose useful it will be. Edgar Edgar D. 1. [TNWAYNE] WILLIAM DAVIDSON
    2. Laroice Davidson
    3. I am writing in hopes of sparking some interest among William Davidson descendants, of which there are many to join me in the search for William's ancestors. My line is from William's son James from 1st marriage. But Iam equally interested in all lines & branches. MY NOTES & FACTS FOR WILLIAM DAVIDSON: WILLIAM DAVIDSON was born about 1790 in North Carolina, and died March 09, 1847 in Wayne County, Tn. He married (1) UNKNOWN 1810. He married (2) DICENA MCMAHAN BLACKSHEAR 1840 in Wayne County, Tn. DOB: William Davidson was born not earlier that 1790. On the 1840 Wayne County, Tn., census he was listed as being between 40-50 years old so he must have been born about 1790. PLACE OF BIRTH: According to the 1880 census which ask the question of his children "Where was your father born? Hannah Davidson Thomas, his daughter answered "North Carolina." His son James Davidson also on the 1880 census did not answer the question. His children Alfred & Louisa by 2nd marriage were both dead in 1880. DATE OF DEATH: The date of death 9 March 1847 is reported in deposition taken from his daughter Hannah (Davidson) Thomas in 1887. CHILDREN: William had three children by his first marriage to UNKNOWN. James born 1812 in Ky or Tn.? M: Nancy Goldsmith, Cassy County Ky in 1830. Robert born 1817 in Tn. M: Unk 1841. Twin sons Isaac & John went to live with Steven Davidson, s/o above James Davidson in 1858. Hannah born 1825/25 in Tn. M: Thomas, no children. By his second marriage to Dicy Blackshear he had two children: Alfred , born 1839 died 1875. Many descendants Louisa., born 1844, died Unk, never married. LAST WILL: William is said to have left a will but it was later lost or destroyed during the Civil War. In a deposition taken from Hannah Davidson Thomas on 17 June 1887 she tells what was supposedly in William Davidson's last Will and Testament. "He left me one cow and calf, one feather bed and a spinning wheel. To James and Robert he left one dollar each. To J.N.Blackshear two horses, yoke of oxen and some hogs. After his debts were paid the balance was to go to Alfred and Louisa Davidson." Hannah Blackshear Keaton, William's step daughter also said in a deposition taken 17 June 1887 the Will contained the following: "William left Hannah, his daughter one cow and calf, one feather bed and a spinning wheel. To James and Robert he left one dollar each. To J.N. Blackshear two horses, one yoke of oxen and some hogs. Also that J.N. Blackshear was to have $140.00 guardian money as his ward and also he made provision for her (Hannah) to have her money out of sale of his tiimber when sold (he was her guardian). Also William made provisions for the care of Hannah's sister who was an invalid. The remainder of his effects to go to Alfred and Louisa and that his wife should wind up his business." Forty years after William died B.D. Keaton and Williams' descendants brought suit against the Blackshears claiming they had cleared Williams' land, sold the timber and raised crops on it. They also asked for a share of the land that William had left. There are some 160 pages to this court case which lists all of Williams' descendants, as of that date and this proves the Davidson line. The land was sold by order of the court and divided among all of William's descendants, as of that date. William's 2nd wife Dicena McMahan Blackshear was first married to Elijah Blackshear and had 4 children: Hannah P. Blackshear, b: 4 Nov 1833 ;Lucendia b: 13 Apr 1823 and died Sep 1849; James and Jessee Marion were twins born 10 Jan 1829. Hannah P. Blackshear married Burton Dill Keaton (B.D). This is the same B.D. Keaton that was appointed as guardian of Steven S. Davidson's 6 youngest children and the one who brought the suit against the Blackshear's. FAMILY CIVIL WAR INVOLVEMENT: William's 1st son James, had among other children: Steven S. Davidson, joined CSA Biffle's cavalry in Dec 1862 in Wayne County and survived the war. Thomas Davidson, joined the Union 6th Cavalry in Madison County, Tn., 1863 and died in Union Hospital in La Grange, outside Memphis in July 1864 of typhoid fever. He was 18 years old. (I have service records for both). As for Williams Ancestors I have not found his first wife or his Parents. If anyone is interested in assisting me in this search I will provide ALL descendant information, clues, leads, notes, etc., in my possession. Sincerely, Laroice "Dave" Davidson, Hololulu, Hawaii e-mail [email protected]

    2. Does anyway happen to know whether the two John Curtis individuals in the 1820 Wayne County, TN census were father and son? How would I look into this issue further? I think my ancestor John Solomon Curtis was the son of the elder John Curtis (b. 1769) but he is obviously not this Wayne County, TN younger John Curtis. There are just so many clues linking my Solomon (as he was known) with both Wayne County and this John Curtis (who I think was the son of either Thomas Curtis and Eleanor Bryant Curtis of Randolph County, NC or the son of a Joshua Curtis of Wilkes County, NC). I would love to have anything further on any of these people. Ruth Gravitt
