Ditto to all that Joyce said. and let me add that I think Wayne County has, hands down, the best County site I have encountered.. I have cable internet and would still rather have quality information rather than " bells and whistles.". Just keep doing what you're doing, no changes required from my point of view. Hope all is progressing well with the injury Marcia Cussins. Hi Edgar, I think that the page is great as it is, and I usually don't have any trouble finding what I need when I look for things, but sometimes I don't look very well. I really enjoy the search engine, and I wish that other counties had as much information on their page. I hope that your arm is getting better, and your arm will be back to normal soon. We do appreciate all of the hard work that you all do. Joyce Tuverson "Edgar D. [email protected] wrote > Is there a source of printed compilations of early census and cemetery > records available on Wayne County. Yes, there is. We have a page on the Wayne County, Tennessee Genealogy and History page that lists all the known published (printed) source materials: county records, census records, marriages, cemetery records, etc. The address is http://www.netease.net/wayne/recordbooks.htm Other published materials that are available to the public are listed at http://www.netease.net/wayne/sources.htm There may be some recent publications that are not listed on these pages. I've not updated them in over two years. If you have information on a publication relating to Wayne County, Tennessee history, genealogy, folklore or records that is not listed on any of the aforementioned pages, please let me know and I'll list it. In order to add the publication to the listing, I need full bibliographic information. And just a reminder that the publication does not need to have been published in hard copy (paper) or microform format. If it is a digital publication, I'd like to know about those too. The writer's question brings up a question I've asked several times of the list. Are the listings on the Contents page clear enough for you to be able to find the information you are seeking? All this information is familiar to me and I sometimes forget that other researchers and readers might not be able to locate items the same way I do. If you have comments or suggestions (or criticisms) concerning the layout of the pages, please let me know. If we can make it easier for you to find the information you are seeking then we will certainly be obliged to do so. I've also tried to keep the page file size small enough that it doesn't take forever to download. There are a couple of exceptions and I will be working on them as time permits. I know some people like all kinds of bells and whistles on a page, but I keep in mind that there are people out there in cyberland that are like me - they have a slow dialup connection instead of DSL or cable. Oh, how I wish I could tap into the main backborn trunk that is buried just across the street from my house - Six huge fiber optic cables that link NYC and LA - talk about download speed!!!! Edgar

I for one, really appreciate the wonderful site you have created! I recently visited Wayne County to research, and the only thing I regret is that I didn't get by there to visit. Get well soon. Donna Duckworth Ft. Worth, TX

Really appreciate all of your hard work Edgar. Take care of your arm. That comes first. You have done a lot for the Wayne County researchers. Darlene in East Texas
Sorry folks that there haven't been more updates to the Wayne County History and Genealogy page. I'm still sporting pins and metal on my broken arm and just haven't been able to get anything other than the queries done. Even typing this message is difficult. The queries have been updated through today. Hopefully it won't be too much longer till I can get back to the 1870 census project and a few other things. Happy hunting. Edgar

I am interested in locating people who are researching the HULAN/HULIN/HULEN family in the area of Hardin & Wayne Counties of Tennessee. I am especially interested in the family listed below: The 1850 Wayne County, TN Census contains the following entry: District 7 - October 18, 1850 - Household 723 Huling, John R/W/M/60/Farmer/1800/NC Huling, Sarah/W/F/38/TN Huling, Isabella/W/F/12/TN Isabella married Joseph "Joe" Arnold and the following are two census entries for the couple: Wayne County, TN District 5 - June 5, 1860 - Sorby - Household 57 Arnold, Joseph/W/M/34/Laborer/-/200/TN Arnold, Isabella/W/F/24/TN Arnold, Okolona/W/F/6/TN Arnold, Richard/W/M/4/TN Arnold, William/W/M/2/TN The 1880 Hardin County, TN Census lists the family as follows: National Archives Film T9-1260 Page 51B District 5 - Hardin County, TN Arnold, Joseph/W/M/54/TN Arnold, Izabella/W/F/43/Wife/TN Arnold, Richard/W/M/23/Son/TN Arnold, Pinkney/W/M/22/Son/TN Arnold, John W/W/M/20/Son/TN Arnold, James F/W/M/18/Son/TN Arnold, Thomas/W/M/16/Son/TN Arnold, Mandy/W/F/13/Daughter/TN Arnold, Samuel/W/M/7/Son/TN Arnold, Abbygill/W/F/4/Daughter/TN Arnold, Cardia/W/F/9 Months/Daughter/TN Davidson, Laura/W/F/17/Other/TN Please contact me if you have information about any of these folks. I will love to compare and share information with you. Thanks! [email protected]
Greetings, I am researching my ancestor James Hill Casey who appears on the Wayne Co., TN census in 1840. He is stated to have come to Wayne Co in 1817 with his family, and in the 1820 census there are only two Caseys, both named Abner Casey. Only one has a male child under 10, so I believe it must be the latter. Therefore by this criterion, the father of James Hill Casey (which is the information I'm trying to deduce) would be Abner Casey. My James Hill Casey (1813-1901) was married in Wayne Co. TN to Jane Turnbow, dau. Of Hugh Turnbow (Turnbough) in 1832, and thus, I have to assume the family was still in the county in 1830, but there are only 3 Caseys listed, Wilson, Willis and Ira on the census, and no Abner. Of course, Abner could have passed away or moved 1820-1830 (or just not be enumerated) and his son, now 17, could be either out of the county or with another of these families (?relatives) in 1830. By 1840 he is listed as a head of a household (James H. Casey) with a family of his own. Any info on this family, or the Turnbough/Turnbows (which I also research) would be appreciated. Thanks, Dlc http://www.casey-genealogy.com <http://www.casey-genealogy.com/>

On the Wayne County 1860 census I find some of my relatives. Eliza Dandridge, daughter, Sarah Galloway and brother, Isaac Leetch. Eliza's brother James M. Galloway was a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister (probably itenirant.. By 1870 Eliza and daughter back in Maury County, TN from whence they moved. Isaac is deceased. And, James M. Galloway no where to be found. Can you help me find him?
Hi Edgar, I have had my computer in the shops for several weeks, and I was glad when I got back on-line and found all of the wonderful things that have been added to the Wayne County site. I want to thank you and Jerry Murphy and everyone else that has worked on all of this. Wayne County has one of the BEST sites, and it's because of all of the hard work that you all do. A lot of my ancestors were in the 3rd District of Wayne County, and I was glad to see it on-line. I hope that your arm is better, but I know what that's like, so just take care of that metal! Thanks very much, Joyce Skelton Tuverson "Edgar D. I am looking for Mary Ann Van Ness(Evans), listed in the the 1850 Laudedale,AL census as 'Mary Veness'(age 36,b. in KY). The 1840 Franklin County,AL census lists her as 'Ann Vanniss'. She died around 1854, but I don't know where. I am also looking for Allen Evans, listed in the Franklin County, AL census in 1830(age 40-50) and 1840(age 50-60), but not 1850. He has 8 kids, only one(possibly) of which seem to be around for the 1850 census. One of the females of Mary Ann's age is missing in the 1840 census. I am also looking for another Allen Evans, possibly born about 1840, who is listed in Roddy's Cavalry with Mary Ann's son, George Henry Clay Van Ness. George Henry Clay Van Ness was born in Florence, AL 1839. GHC, in Roddy's Cavalry, was captured and transferred to Ohio where he remained after release. He was a licensed pilot(boat) on the Ohio, Mississippi, and Tennesee Rivers after the war. I have a family document that claims that GHC talked about a cousin 'Allen Evans' in Tennessee. I am assuming that this Allen Evans lived near the Tennesse River in order for them to keep in touch, but I must admit I don't really know. There is also an Allen Evans Van Ness as one of the children of GHC. I have seen the Allen B. Evans of Wayne County and I don't think that the dates match up to correctly. I have seen this page listing a second Allen Evans in Wayne County: http://www.netease.net/wayne/anbasee.htm I am very interested in this contacting this person, but she seems to have moved. If anyone knows how to contact Patricia E. McNab, please let me know. Charlie p.s. I am sending this to multiple lists, so I apologize if you get this twice.

Here's this week's updates to the Wayne County, Tennessee Genealogy and History Page ... Queries have been updated. Marriage Records 1 July 1929 - 31 Dec 1937 added! Jerry Murphy worked on these so give him the congrats!!!! We're working on getting the rest of the marriage records 1857 - 1929 input and posted, but that is going to take some time and a lot of work. Postings of the 1870 Population schedules for Wayne County are going to be delayed. As some of you may know, I fell Thursday the 12th and broke my wrist. Had to have surgery to reconstruct the wrist, so now I'm part metal! I've tried working on finishing Civil District 5, but am making way too many mistakes typing with just one hand. So until I can use both hands, the 1870 will be delayed. If anyone is interested in doing the input on the 1880 or 1900 please let me know. The 1880 will have to be done from the microfilm since we do not have permission to use Mrs. Brown's transcription. However, we do have permission to use Alf and June Scott's transcription of the 1900 and that should make input a lot easier. All for now. Edgar Edgar D.
