Hi Hortons! I am helping a friend with her DAR application and have run into a snag. Her line is Isaac Horton, Sr., abt 1759 d. 1854 Wayne Co., TN. Isaac Horton, Jr., d. 1853 Searcy Co., AK. James Henry Horton b. 1821 d. 1865. I have not found documented proof that James H. was the son of Isaac Horton, Jr. I am looking for any link, a bible record, land record, obituary, anything that will show a link between these two. IsaacJr., Wayne Co., TN for Searcy, AK abt 1850 and died in 1853. All the court records in Searcy County burned before 1897 so there is not Will or Probate file. Has anyone seen land records for IsaacJr., may show his children selling land after his death? I will be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks, Judy
Nancy Hardin, age 54, is listed in the 1850 census of Wayne Co. Jesse Hardin was listed in the 1840 census. I want to know if this is the same "Jesse Hardin and Nancy his wife" who are listed in Williamson County and Marshall County records as heirs of Joseph Wilson, Revolutionary soldier and son of Robert and Eleanor Wilson of Mecklenburg County, NC. Does anyone have information about the children of Jesse and Nancy Hardin? Thank you, Carolyn Smotherman
It was brought to my attention that the email address I had on the Family History Fair page for Allen Berry wasn't working. I've made the necessary corrections. Allen's email address is [email protected] if any of you wish to reserve a table at the Family History Fair. Edgar
as you said in your email, most of the projects I have seen have been done by people "for the love of geneaology"..and has not been subsidized by anyone.....and I know it would involve a lot of work on the webpage and I totally agree that the Wayne County site is a great one! maybe those of us out of county or in county could start with sending the photos we have?...... I along with others would like very much to have all the tombstones in the Wayne-Perry-Decatur County areas photographed and posted on a web site for all to view. I have several ancestors who were the very early settlers of that area who now lay in some unknown location which seems to have been lost to time. Some were buried on their family farms in family cemeteries and I fear that the signs of their graves has long since been erased. Those which still remain should be preserved with photos and locations so that descendants can find and visit the graves which still remain. Paul H Evens
Edgar???? Is anyone around there helping you out now? I was hoping that they would. John is correct, I haven't seen anyone in Wayne Co. reply my quirie except you. Are they even interested? If not, let us know. I, like John have a great deal of pictures of my ancestors from Wayne Co.that I would be willing to share. They are; NORMAN, ROSE, BECKHAM, and some affiliates. I also have some unidentified. Why couldn't we just send you copys and you could either put them on your web page or the quarterly? how about it list? Edgar? I would also like to have pictures that I could down load. I still would like to have tombstones. now, Edgar I know that you have a heavy load, and if this is asking too much, please tell us. I know that you must, by now be planning for the July fair. Wanda Norman
Looking for others researching these lines. I have other connections but these are SPECIFIC to me. I have many photos and documented connections. Am looking for others willing to share information. John
I have a large number of photos for the SCOTT/BRYANT/YOUNGBLOOD/WHITE lines in Wayne County. Am willing to share with bloodlines..........I suggested to go and spend a summer there to do a photo documentary for all the cemeteries a few years ago but no one on the Wayne County Historical Society would offer any type of compensation to do such and that was left up in the air. Apparently no one was interested. I know a number of cemeteries I personally visited a few years ago are in the "WILD" and will long be lost.....I hope someone has the foresight to document them before they are LOST! John
Anyone heard about any Shands in Wayne County and the illegitimate births? I have a number of SCOTTs that seemed to have taken care of a number of them and was looking for the connection to the SCOTT line. John

Edgar, This sounds like an absolutely great idea. Count me in for Rogers Co. Okla. Wanda

Would anyone know how I would go about finding out if there are any records available for the Victory Methodist Church? Would anyone know the history of this church? Wanda and others on the list ~ I'll be happy to set up a page for this if we can get any volunteers here in the county. I have a few photographs of "interesting" burials and tombstones, but certainly nothing like what you are asking. So if anyone would like to volunteer to do the photographs in the county, please let me know and I'll post your name and email address to a special tombstone photograph volunteer page. It was with shock and great sorrow that I learned of James' death. He had just called me a couple of weeks ago about a question he had on the Wayne Co. Brewers. We must have talked for 45 minutes about geneaology and about his hobby that took his life. James was a very upbeat person to have gone through the pain and suffering that he had. He was the most knowledgable person I found on the Southern Wayne Co. history, especially Butler's Creek area. Several years ago, he took me on a tour of all the cemeteries on Butler. Without him, I would never have been able to find them all. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace. James Herbert Brewer 600 Eastbrook Rd Estill Springs, TN 37330-3490
I heard about James' death on Sunday when I was talking with my parents in Collinwood. It's a great loss to those researching the same families as James. He had a great deal of information on the Daniel family. I'll miss seeing him at the Family History Fair and talking with him. My thoughts go out to his family. I lost my grandmother, Sally Kathleen Brown Murphy, about 3 weeks ago. She had been in bad health for a while and the family was more or less prepared for her death. We never want to give up a loved one. I know my grandmother suffered a lot before her death and I'm glad the pain has ended for her. My prayers go out to the family of James Stooksberry. Jerry W. James will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Like Edgar said he had a vast amount of knowledge and information on lots of southern Wayne Co families. Be in prayer for his family. It is my loss that I did not take the time to communicate with Mr. Stooksberry concerning my Daniel family history. To those concerned please accept condolences from the Daniel family. I believe that he may have had information concerning my 2nd Great Grand parents John Daniel and Nancy Holmes. Their children Calvin M.+ Nancy Jane Brewer, Nancy Lillian Daniel-Sain, Elizabeth Catharine Daniel-Simmons, William Green, James Madison, Mary Elizabeth Daniel-McShann, Lucinda Daniel-Watts & John Buckley (Buck) Daniel were born in Wayne County iaw census and other records, however to date I cannot locate this family prior to 1847 when they are found in Old Tishomingo County MS near Baldwyn. I know there are many of John Calvin's descendants married with Stooksberry's in Wayne County and that my Great grandfather's wife Mary Ann (Molly) Ball specifically requested that a Reverend Stooksberry preach her funeral in Cleveland County Oklahoma Territory in Feb 1900. It would be so kind if those who gain his records would contact me concerning any information that pertains to the Stooksberry/Daniel families. SEE YA JAMES MADISON DANIEL
Dear list, It was with great sadness that I learned this morning that James Lee Stooksberry of Lawrenceburg, TN had died Saturday. James was a superior genealogist and his knowledge of southern Wayne County, Tennessee families was encyclopedic. He will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him. Edgar
