Doris, I would like a copy of your Martin Genealogy. I have done some research on the Murphy family that was somehow connected to the Martins of Martin's Mills. Following below is some census on the Martins of Wayne County. Through the 2nd marriage of my great aunt, Martha Catherine Cagle, O'Guin to James B. Martin, I am related to this Martin family shown by the 1870 census of Hardin County. In 1870, they lived on Smith Fork near the Robert P. Bailey place (where highway 64 crosses Smith Fork). By 1880, they were living at Cerro Gordo. Thanks, David 1870 Census, Hardin Co., TN 074 William F. This is to remind you all about the 15th Annual Wayne County Family History Fair will take place this Saturday, July 12, at the Collinwood Middle School in Collinwood. Hours for the fair are 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Vendors or individuals with reserved tables may set up between 8:00 and 9:00 if they desire. Right now, we have 22 tables reserved so I believe there is going to be lots of information for those who are seriously researching their family history as well as for those who are just beginning their search. I have stopped reserving tables at this time in order to prepare the Fair Directory but if you can come to the fair and haven't reserved a table there will be areas for you to set up to do research or to visit with Wayne County friends. We do not "charge" admission to the fair but kindly ask everyone to donate $1.00 to help us pay for the use of the building. We have to pay a school custodian to work that day. If you need directions or have questions about the Fair, please email me. Also, remember there are going to be great concessions again this year so you will not have to leave the fair to drive to a restaurant for lunch. The ladies who have been doing the refreshments for the past several years will be there again this year with their delicious "fried pies" and hot coffee for those who come early. They they will have homemade hamburgers and also beans, onions and cornbread plates again this year which has been a favorite during past fairs. I hope you will visit us this Saturday, July 12, at the Family History Fair. Thanks to everyone for their responses. I must apologize for quoting other researchers without any evidence of my own, and presenting it as fact. I will be more careful in the future. This is what I can actually prove. My father and grandfather were both born in Claiborne County Mississippi. Our family have recollections and pictures to support this. My great grandfather Humphrey P.K. Daniel came to Mississippi from Tennessee and married 22 Apr 1851. I have a copy of his marriage bond from the Port Gibson Mississippi courthouse. Evelyn Van Meter has Robert C. Daniel family Bible records that indicate Humphrey Posey Kimsey Daniel was born in Bedford County Tennessee 18 Jan 1825, son of Robert C. & Nancy Kimsey Daniel. The Bible records also say Robert C. Daniel was born 18 Jul 1791 in North Carolina. I have not yet seen the actual Bible records from Evelyn. I hope to make a trip to Tennessee soon, and visit with her, look at the records, and at the graves of my family on Daniel Hollow. As for the research of Felix W. Motlow, Evelyn's parents helped provide Mr. Motlow with his information on the Robert C. Daniel family. Several others are very skeptical of Motlow's research for several reasons, and I share that skepticism. I'm not trying to claim kin to a family that is not mine, just because they might be famous. All I really can prove at this point is that I'm a direct male descendant of Robert C. Daniel, and that I share a common male ancestor with Plummer Daniel. Thanks to everyone for all their help. Is the Old Riley Cem., Wayne Co., TN the same cemetery as the Robinsons Cemetery in Wayne Co., TN ? Or are these 2 separate cemeteries? I'm referring to Henry HOWELL, Jr., b 10 Mar 1834, d 15 Oct 1867, Wayne Co., and I have him buried in both cemeteries.... musta been a big man.... His wife Nancy Jane (Steele) Howell, b 7 Aug 1836, Wayne Co., and d 7 Nov 1915 in Wayne Co., and she buried at Warrington Cem. in Wayne Co. Can someone confirm the burials? Hope you're having a wonderful summer, not too hot, not too humid, and no tornadoes. Happy Kin Searching, Tom Evans (A transplant to Minnie-so-tah).
I have noticed some conversation about DNA testing on this website. Myself and several other lines have been doing DNA testing on a Martin line from Wayne Co, TN. We have pursued this to prove and disprove several theories, from my understanding on DNA testing a 12 mark test is not conclusive proof that you are related in any generation. I have talked with the people at FTM DNA testing and from what they told me, in a 25 marker test if you vary in at least 2 markers it is highly unlikely you are kin. Varying one marker is possible. We have tested 5 people I think, on a 25 marker and they have matched 25 out of 25. You really need a 25 marker test to prove anything conclusive. By the way if your Martin line goes back to Wayne Co, TN, we would love to see you do a 25 marker DNA test! Be glad to show anyone how to do this. Vicki
Hello Clay, I've been reading all the messages concerning the Daniel DNA project with interest. Thanks for including me in the messages between you and Carolyn Smotherman. The final results of the project will most likely shock and surprise some people. Some will wonder why they've wasted so many years persuing an ancestral line that isn't even theirs while others won't accept the DNA results if it eliminates their connection to someone famous. I've been at this for some 20 years now and have run into all kinds. I don't have anything etched in stone that says Plummer Daniel was a son of Hiram Daniel. There is circumstantial evidence to support that possibility however. I have heard of Felix Motlow's research on the Daniel family. Unfortunately I've never seen any documentation to support his claims. Strange that whenever I ask researchers that use Motlow's research what he based his research on I rarely get a response. Often never hearing from them again. Just because people lived in the same county or area with the same surname doesn't neccessarily make them siblings. One question I've ask Motlow followers is how does he explain Robert C. Daniel residing beside Hiram Daniel in 1810 Buncombe County, North Carolina? Motlow claims the family of Joseph "Jobe" Daniel moved to Bedford County, Tennessee in 1808. If Robert C. Daniel was in Bedford County, Tennessee by 1808 with Jobe's family, how did he meet Nancy Kimsey whose family was residing in Buncombe County, North Carolina at the time? Robert and Nancy apparently were married about 1810 with their oldest child born in 1813. Speaking of the oldest child, I find it interesting that Robert C. Daniel named his oldest son Hiram and his second son Benjamin after Nancy's father but didn't name any of his other sons Joseph or Jobe. Now that seems really odd to me. Especially since Robert had around 17 kids with at least 12 of them sons. To me it looks like there's something wrong with the theory of Robert being the son of Joseph "Jobe" Daniel. I could be wrong. Don't have anything etched in stone. All I'm seeking is the truth and as they say on the X Files, "The truth is out there." Jerry W. I am searching the Harveys in Wayne County Tennessee. They were in Wane from 1820 to about 1846 when they were found in perry County tennessee by 1846. Thomas Giles Harvey married Susannah Harvey in Columbia County GA March 18, 1798 they had. 1) James A. Harvey born in 1799 GA and married a Rachel Unknown. 2) John B. Harvey born in 1800 GA and Married a Mary Unknown possibly Loggins or Logan. 3) Cynthia Harvey born abt 1805 GA married in Wayne County a Peter Simmons 4) Littleberry Harvey born abt 1807 GA married in Wayne County a Sarah Loggins SuSannah died in GA or Tennessee about 1807-1808. Thomas Giles Harvey then met a Unknown Lucas and had 5 children with her; 1) Hickman Lucas 2) Thomas Jefferson Lucas 3) Mary Lucas 4) William Baker Lucas 5) Caroline Lucas Last names were changed to Harvey by Acts of Tennessee in 1821. Anyone have any info on these.
Searching for Thomas Simmons and family in Wayne county Tennessee from 1820 to about 1846 When they moved to Johnson County Illinois. Thomas was married to a Elizabeth Walker and had the following Children; 1) Nacy or spelled Nancy Simmons 2) John Simmons 3) Wiley Simmons 4) Lewis Simmons 5) Mary Polly Simmons 6) Thomas Simmons?
Plummer Daniel was born in North Carolina in 1797. My gg-grandfather Robert Calaway Daniel was born July 18, 1791 in North Carolina, the fifth child of Joseph (Jobe) Daniel (ca 1750-ca 1814) and Elizabeth (Calaway) Andress Daniel (ca 1757 - ca 1853). The family of Joseph and Elizabeth Calaway Daniel came to Bedford County Tennessee about 1808 and settled near the Lincoln County line, in what is now Moore County. Robert C. Daniel died in Bedford County on 16 May 1870 "after living 78 years 9 months 28 days," and was buried on his farm on Daniel Hollow Road (now in Moore County). This ancestry is supported by the research of Felix W. Motlow of Lynchburg, and the research of Evelyn Van Meter, who wrote the article on the Robert C. Daniel family published in the Bedford County Family History Book. Plummer Daniel seems to have come from Rhea County Tennessee in the 1830's and settled near Robert C. Daniel in Bedford County. Robert C. Daniel and Hezekiah Ray were witnesses to the sale of 60 acres by Elijah Parker to Plummer Daniel on December 12, 1836. Plummer and Robert were residing in Dist. No. 24 according to the 1836 Bedford County, TN tax list. Plummer Daniel moved to Wayne County Tennessee about 1854, and has many descendants. Recently completed 12 marker Y-chromosome DNA tests done by www.familytreedna.com show that samples from me, Clay Daniels, as a direct male descendant of Robert Calaway Daniel are an exact match with those of Faron Daniel, a direct male descendant of Plummer Daniel. We are in the process of upgrading to the 25 marker test, but the 12 marker results are conclusive enough to indicate that Robert C. Daniel and Plummer Daniel had a common male ancestor. Conclusive enough that our of some 10,000 samples so far collected by Family Tree DNA, we are the only two with this particular 12 marker DNA code. The question now is how Plummer and Robert C. Daniel are related. Their ages and common birthplace suggest they are brothers but the DNA results only say they have a common male ancestor, so they could be uncle/nephew or cousins too. Hoping to figure this out, Clay Daniels This was posted to both the Bedford and Wayne County lists.

I'm interested in gathering family tree information and family history on the descendants of Adam & Mary Catherine (BARR) ALLISON. They are my 4G Grandparents and my lineage is as follows: 3G Grandparents - William & Rosannah (KERR) ALLISON. 2G Grandparents - Solomon Hardy & Isabella (ALLISON) BAKER of Hardin & Wayne Co., TN (near Clifton on the road to Savannah). G Grandparents - Theopolis Allison & Mary Catherine (GRIFFIN) BAKER of Wayne Co., TN (near Clifton on the road to Savannah). My grandparents are Wyatt Lemuel 'Lamb' & Mary Irma (BAKER) EVANS. 'Lamb' was a stonecutter, and all his monuments and tombstone carvings had a little 'lamb' carved on them. He died in Paducah, KY, and Mary Irma died in Evansville, IN (she is buried in the Baker Cemetery found alongside Road 128 just outside Clifton). If you connect with these folks, please let me hear from you. Thanks, Tom Evans 8435 16th Ave. S. Bloomington, MN 55425
Hello! I am trying to find out information on land warrants in Wayne County. My ancestor had a land grant filed in Wayne County in the 1820's. It said it was founded on a warrant and gave the number. The warrant was for 640 acres. I hope there is someone on this list that is familiar with the types of land grants used in Wayne County. I came across something on a website that mentioned preemption warrants for 640 acres. Thanks! Debbie Richard
