    3. For anyone who is interested in John Strain of Washington County (1759-1840) or his descendants, a Strain DNA surname project has been underway at FamilyTreeDNA.com for several months now. Among the findings so far.... The testing has shown that I am probably related to a descendant of Thomas Jefferson Strain of Cocke County, TN (1808-1865). I am a descendant of John Strain of Washington County. There is only one genetic mutation of difference between our two lines, implying that we had a common male ancestor in the recent past. Previously there was no known connection between these Strain lines. There are three genetic differences between the John Strain line and the line of David Strain of South Carolina. This implies that we might have shared a common male ancestor, but if so it was further back in the past. For more information, including how to join the project, we are constructing a website at this URL: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~straindna/StrainDNAProject.htm Thanks, Ted Strain
