I totally agree with you. On lists, and I subscribe to many, where all messages come back to the list, I often find information on my families that I wasn't specifically looking for - in many cases didn't know I should be looking for - which has helped me greatly. I get lots of spam since I have had this address for many years and am used to deleting. If the topic isn't of interest, I can just hit the delete key. If people would use appropriate subject lines, those listing the family names, it would be easy for anyone to delete those not of interest. Just my 2 cents. It helps to know other families in the area I am searching and I am often able to help people with their questions because I have a subscription to census records and I do know something about families that I am not related to because of records I have come across while searching for my own. It isn't that hard to delete well labeled postings or even to read a couple of sentences to determine the sense of the content. Too bad--it does make for a pretty slow moving list. I agree - I belong to several groups and have picked up several contacts from general group messages. I do not think the procedure necessary to send a private e-mail is too much of a problem, if that is what is intended.
