Here's a brief history: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tncjones/Courthouse.htm . The existing courthouse is the fifth one on the site since 1779 (the first being a log house). At least one burned, in 1839, but the predecessor of the current courthouse, built in 1913, was torn down to make way for the new building.
