Still looking. The following is what I have. James was first married to Mary Crumley (1867-1896 approx.) on 16 Oct. 1881 at Sullivan County, TN. His second wife, my great grandmother, was Sarah Louvena Moore (1879-1964), married on 8 Jan. 1897 at Sullivan County, TN. The children of his first marriage are: Laura E. South, born 13 Oct. 1881, died-Unknown Sarah South, born Apr. 1883, died-Unknown Kinny South, born Oct. 1887, died 18 Apr. 1910 The children of his second marriage are: Robert Edward South (my grandfather), born 24 Dec. 1897, died Jan 1986 Ollie Mae South, born 2 Feb 1900, died-Unknown Hubert Lee South, born 21 Oct. 1902, died 12 Apr. 1981 I have no record or proof that his first daughter was Laura E. South. The only data I have is from family. According to Cousin Louella Burnette 6/97, Laura may have gone to Kansas. In the 1900 Census of Sullivan County Laura is not listed with the family. I wish that I could see the 1890 census- It's a shame for the loss. I have found no other records on Laura and have no clue where she went. In the 1900 Census of Sullivan County, his second daughter Sarah is listed as being age 17 , birth April 1883 in TN. I have found no other records on Sarah and have no clue where she went. There is a Sarah South that married Jack Campbell living in Carter County 12th District in the 1920 and 1930 Census. She is listed as being born about 1890 and having married at age 16. I have'nt tied her into a South family yet. She may be the daughter of William and Mary South born Aug 1888 as listed in the 1900 Census for sullivan County 19th Civil District. I found the following on his third child Kenny: Bristol Herald Courier articles dated Tuesday, April 19, 1910. Title: KENNY SOUTH DIES AT COUNTY POOR HOUSE MONDAY. Kenny South, the fifteen year old lad who has been an inmate of the Sullivan county poor house since the death of his parents a few years ago, died there early Monday morning. The news of his death was received by Squire R. Pile, who has taken a great interest in the unfortunate boy and who was much grieved to hear it. His body will be buried beside that of his parents. I have yet to find the grave sites of Kinnie or his mother. They may be in unmarked graves at the Paperville Cemetery if the Obituary above is correct. I would think that if he was indeed buried by the JOUAM as his father was then there would be a stone similar to James'. I assumed that Rhoda A. South is the mother of James. This is based on the 1860 Census for Sullivan County, TN where Rhoda and sons William and James are living in the family of Daniel South. Also I base it on James age of 42 in the 1900 Census for Sullivan County, TN and on his tombstone inscription where his birth is stated as "JAMES E. SOUTH BORN DEC 23, 1855 DIED APR. 6, 1904". I have no other basis for the parents of James at this time. His father is unknown at this time.
