Does anyone know if the child John took his mother's name or did he go by Carter? "Tennessee Tidbits" 1778-1914, Vol II; by Rev Silas Emmett Lucas Jr. John CARTER - August term 1788, was ordered to give bond for the maintenance of a Base Born Male Child of the Body of Sarah MEDLOCK, named John. His securities were Thos Yourley & David Allison. (Washington Co, TN, Co Ct Min, 1-338). John Carter was the reputed father as shown when he was ordered to pay Ten pounds for the expenses and maintenance of the said child for 11 ½ months past, May term, 1789. (Ibid 380). Thanks Wanda
