We are searching for information about Slaty Grave Church and Cemetery located off of Bill West Road, near Washington College Academy. 23 May 1921, C.D. Gillespie signed an agreement -- "it being the lot on Slaty Hill on which once stood Slaty Grove church (colored) and contains 1/4 acre of land... hereby releasing all claimes to Homestead and Dower thereuse, the ground where the graves are and except the privilege to keep up the graves that now exist but no further right to burry [sic] on said lot." Does anyone have information about when the church existed or who is buried in the cemetery. Only fieldstone remain.
