Bob, Yes I could join the SAR on Jacob Brown if I descended from him but unfortunately I don't. According to the research of Martha M. Kerlin Alexander in1901 the David Brown, who resided on the French Broad River near Asheville, served in Lieut. Cal Melbourne's 1st NC Battalion commanded by Colonel Clark in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted 8 January 1777 to serve 3 years. She believed him to be the David Brown of Washington County, Tennessee. My source of this is: http://www2.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=shasta4737&view=63&pid=1579&photoindex=0 Martha Malinda Kerlin was the great-granddaughter of David Brown through his daughter Ann Brown who married Jacob Sands. The first record I have of David in Washington County is the 1780 & 81 5th District tax list that lists David with 100 acres, 3 horses and 3 cattle. Brian Hulleberg should look at the family of Jacob Brown and see if there's a connection with his "Termanda" Fernanda Brown. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of Jacob Brown and his family could take a look. Jerry W.
