    3. To Pat Sabin: This should have been addressed to you. Many thanks! ----- Original Message ----- From: Julia Spicer To: henry@johnsonsdepot.com Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2005 11:10 PM Subject: A beautiful reminder of my life in Johnson City! Upon graduating from ETSC in 1947, I was hired as secretary to Munsey Memorial Methodist Church where Rev. Paul Worley was minister. One morning, a "ratty" looking man walked into my office with his hands behind him and asked me: "Is this the place where they heal souls?" at which point he held up a pair of boots! This man was Major John Parmenter Mitchell from the Soldier's Home. Major Mitchell attended church services and since I handled the deposit of Sunday collection monies, I noted a check each week written to such as "Pay to the order of that altruistic church" or "Pay to the order of Paul Worley or Julia Spicer, whichever is more important", etc. He and I became good friends and after leaving Johnson City for a teaching position in Bristol, TN. I kept receiving letters from him. Now my question: When did Major Mitchell die and where was he buried? I married in Johnson City in St. John's Episcopal Church and left for our honeymoon to Chattanooga on that Southern Railway depot just as it is pictured here. This is a fabulous site which I shall keep on my computer and refer to often. Thank you for sending out to all of us these delightful memories of a wonderful town! Julia English Spicer

    3. I have never posted here. I continue to read the posts for the valuable information that they hold. The post showing the link to 'Johnson's Depot,' http://www.johnsonsdepot.com/ is truly a gem! My grandfather,Wert St. John, great grandfather Robert Willie, and great great grandfather, Lunsford Yandell Park were all railroad clerks, telegraphers, and conductors. To Pat Sabin....my heart felt thanks as well for sharing this gem! Sincerely, Angela Park Richmond, VA
