    2. Dr. Pam Hartman
    3. Does anyone know if there are records of court proceedings in Wasington County in the 1840's? I want to see if there is record of my gggrandfather Elbert Anderson being bonded out to the John Tankersley family, sometime probably between 1844 and 1850 when Elbert was listed in the census as living with the Tankersleys. Where could I look to see such records? Pam Hartman -

(Tony Duncan / Johnson City Press)Historic inn lost - 18th-century-structure fire called suspicious By Sue Guinn Legg Press Staff Writer slegg@johnsoncitypress.com The 18th-century Broylesville Inn, the oldest building in the Broylesville Historic District of Limestone, was destroyed early Wednesday by a fire authorities described as suspicious. The Limestone and Nolichucky volunteer fire departments were called to the fire at the inn, located on the eastern bank of Little Limestone Creek at the intersection of Gravel Hill and McQueen roads, about 4:43 a.m. and found the building was fully involved in flames. By daylight, all that remained of the 207-year-old, two-story log and clapboard structure were two brick chimneys rising out of its smoldering rubble. 3. I just renewed my subscription last week and the salesman explained OneWorldTree to me. The search engine goes out to verify the information on the tree. It will look up vital records, wills, land records, etc. to verify family information. Sounds like a good idea to me. Many of the trees available have wrong information. Kay Armstrong

This is showing up on many lists but is not true. Please check these things out rather than passing them on willy-nilly. Trees uploaded to either side (RW/Ancestry) are visible from both sides. Ancestry is *not* charging for access or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. Think of it like a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human.

    2. Geoff Rasmussen
    3. Connie, I have located all the Shields in Washington County land records. There was only 1 entry for R.W. Shields in 1880. He sold the land, so it's likely that he received his land through another way, such as a will. There are several Julia Shields in the records, it's likely that they all tie in somehow. However, the book entitled Joseph Shields of Washington County, Tennessee mentions that there are two different Shields families of the county. While the book provides a lot of good information, there are many errors to be aware of. As I'm researching the Shields, I'll try to keep you posted. Have you obtained a possible death record? Sincerely, Geoff Rasmussen -----Original Message----- From: Welch [mailto:stinger@semo.net] Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2004 10:01 AM To: TNWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [TNWASHIN-L] Shields Hi Geoff, In 1860 Robert is listed as age 10 living with the Walker family but in 1870 he is suppose to be living with a Josh Shields and his family and 1880 he is married and still living there in Washington county. I am not sure about the time between 1880 and 1890 but in 1900 he ends up in Texas. I have asked for a census lookup for 1850 in hopes that his family can be found there. I would like to see your ancestry there though. I think from the census records that they are more than likely all related in some way or at least the ones left in 1880. I did notice a Julia b. 1814 on the census and wondered if that might be an aunt? So anyway Robert having been born in 1850 or so wouldn't be listed. I just don't know where his parents are is all.
