Good Evening, would anyone on the list clarify something about the Old Dutch Meeting HOuse and cemetery for me. It should be very close to The Cherokee Baptist Church. The historical marker at the corner indicates that the old dutch metting house and cemetery is one an one quarter mile from the sign. My aunt and I measured and looked and looked and looked and never saw hide nor hair of it. Does it still exist ? We were interested in also finding the tombstone buriel place of John Booth as described and pictured in Billy Hugh Camphell. jr.'s book "Down on Cherokee." Could anyone help us clarify and possibly be able to veiw our anscestors' gravesite (John Booth) ,Also ln this road. :Which is located on the Jerry Booth farm.? Any kind help would be immensly appreciated!! Thanks, J. DeWayne White oddwad@comcast.net

Hi all, I just want to say how much I appreciate all the effort of those who are contributing to the Cemetery recording and posting efforts. And Betty Jane, a special thanks to you. If any of those who are expending so much effort and time are not online please pass on my appreciation to them. It's people like all of you who make genealogy such a wonderful hobby. Have a Merry Christmas, all. Bill Hunter
Don't know if anyone has noticed, but Ancestry.com now has some pages of the 1890 Veterans Census on line for Washington Co TN. Yvonne
Betty Jane, Margaret and Team, Thank you again for your tireless (well, maybe not tireless, but persistent) pursuit of documenting the Washington County cemeteries. Anyone who has transcribed a cemetery knows how difficult it can be - especially reading the old and deteriorated stones. Merry Christmas to everyone, and if you get snow in Johnson City, enjoy it for all of us in Georgia! Afternoon, It has been a beautiful sunny day in Washington County. Hope the forecasters are wrong for tomorrow. The Washington County, Tennessee Marriage Records, 1871-1899 arrived from the printers yesterday. We hope genealogists will find it a useful addition to Goldene Fillers Burgner's book of earlier records. See the web page for ordering information: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwag/bookshop.htm This will be the last posting of cemeteries for 2004. The team will be out on pretty days this winter, copying more. Brushy Creek Campground & Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwashin/cemetery/cemBr_Bu.htm#BRUSHY%20CREEK If you have evidence of any one being buried here, please let us know. Bowman (John) Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwashin/cemetery/cemBo.htm#BOWMANJohn Again, if you know of any one being buried here, please let us know. Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwashin/cemetery/cemLovelaceSecA1.htm This cemetery is located on the edge of Greene County. It is included on this site because so many Washington County residents are buried here. Painter Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwashin/cemetery/cemP.htm#PAINTER Again, we need your help identifying the folks buried here. This is a good time to acknowledge the members of the Cemetery Survey Team of NE Tennessee: Margaret Hougland and Chester Willis are our webmasters Chester also does a lot of PR work for us, as well as, the "get down and dirty" work of cleaning markers. Donna Briggs, copies, photographs each marker, searches for additional information and burns the documents to a CD. Dawn Peters, Gary Sawyer, Jan Clark and Elaine Cantrell locates and copies cemeteries. Lori Craiger would like to get out more but a regular job and family keeps her busy. She enters the information into a database. Bob Shell and Bud Cox are a big help with the scrubber, hacking tools and clearing the way for other team members to work. We especially want to mention the late J.R. Hodges, Jr. We appreciate all his help. A big thanks to the many other folks who take us to remote places to work, holds the gates open, and helps us gather additional information. The Cemetery Survey Team of NE TN does not hold formal meetings, we do not elect officers and we plan to keep it that way. We get the job done and are not slowed down with "procedures." We are not part of another organization but we enjoy the cooperation of other groups. We have such a wonderfully diverse group of people. We work together or independantly. We have some members who are interested in working only the sections of the county where they live; others will travel anywhere. Some of our older members find the "hidden jewels" and do the PR work for the "get down and get dirty" group to copy. We have some members who work regular jobs and can't always do field work. They enter the information into a database and proofread for us or act as webmasters. Our main goal is to copy and preserve the information. We don't have enough people or money (this is an all volunteer effort) to clean up and preserve cemeteries. We hope by drawing attention to cemeteries that descendants or interested indivduals will adopt it and keep it up. So much of our history is fading away because of neglect. We do not do anything that will destroy a grave and try to leave a cemetery in better shape than when we entered. I am looking for information regarding a family who may have come from Washington or Greene Co, TN with the name of BAYEL OR BAYLES. This group would be Jacob and his sons, Jonathan, Amassa, Levi and John. They have moved from Tennessee by 1828 however Levi signs (with his mark) a wedding bond (bride is Rosanna Keller) in Greene County as late as July 2nd of 1827, and his brother Amassa returns to Tennessee to marry into the Oliver family (Martha) in 1829. Jacob was able to purchase land in 1830 in Illinois, so he may have come from a family of some means. There is a Jacob Beales who sells land in Washington Co, TN in 1800 to Joseph Hartman...land which is located on the waters of Big Limestone and near land owned by Uriah Hunt and Thomas Shipley. This Jacob 'could' be the father of the Jacob I am researching...this is not known. If any on this list connect with any of the above information, please let me know. Thanks Shumway sycchair (at) hotmail.com
