In the History of Washington County, Tennessee 1988, p. 80: "A deed recorded in Washingotn county in 1800 conveyed one and one-fourth acres of land from James and margaret Cash to James Law, Isaac Hair, Jeremiah Regan, John C. Harris and James Cash, trustees, to be used as the site of a Methodist Episcopal Church. Bishop Francis Asbury often visited the ohome of James Cash during his travels through this area. The church was built on a small hill, near the head of the Bacon Branch of Little Limestone Creek. it is not known how long this church served the community, but for many years the area was known as "Cash Hill." An old cemetery is lcoated on the site of the church." The Cemetery Survey Team would like to locate this old cemetery and any history about it. My g gf, John Richardson 1819-1909 came to Washington County from near Hillsboro, NC in the early 1840s. He worked for the John H. Blair Stage Lines. He married Elizabeth Ellis of Hawkins County, July 4, 1846. He was a Mason. He was postmaster of Russellville May 1847 to April 1849. He and Elizabeth moved to Hawkins County sometime after the 1850 census. Her father was John Ellis and a large land owner. I know all about their descendants and about their life in Hawkins County. I DO NOT know the given names of John Richardson's parents. The 1880 and 1900 census records say John's mother was born in NC. The 1880 census states John's father born in NC but the 1900 census says Maryland. I recently participated in the Richardson DNA test program and find (as I have long suspected) a very possible connection between my John and the family of another John Richardson in Hawkins County. This is John Richardson married to Retta Mann. They are on the 1830 Hawkins County census. Seeking any knowledge of Richardsons in Washington or Hawkins county this time frame. Is anyone researching Richardsons in this area? Please Note, I do not know his parents given names. I know all about their descendents. (relative to genealogy) I need to connect to the John Blair Stage Company or ?????? Thanks. Charles Ray Richardson Raleigh, NC
Is anyone researching the Joseph Anderson/David Deaderick families and related lines? I have a special interest in these families. I am curious if there is a DNA project for the Andersons. I need to find a straight male line descendant of Joseph Anderson or one of his sons. My grandfather David Deaderick Nelson was named for David Deaderick Anderson, son of Alexander Anderson and grandson of Joseph Anderson. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you want to share information. Thanks for any help. Vicky, This may refer to the Church of the Brethren--they have also been known as unkards, Dunkers and Tunkers. There are several different Brethren groups, but the Church of the Brethren established the first church in TN in Washington Co, probably in 1800. It was in the Knob Creek community. In 1830 a congregation was established in Limestone. About 1902 a church was built near Boones Creek. Much later there was a Johnson City church and one called Liberty, which recently split from the COB and became independent (?). These are some places to try. Pat Does anyone know if there is a cemetery in Jonesborough or Johnson City called Union Brethan Church, I was told it may have also been called Dunkards Church at one time.
This is the address I found on the TNgenweb site Jonesborough Genealogical Society 200 Sabin Dr. Jonesborough, TN 37659 You might like to check out things they have there: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwashin/
