    2. Ruth
    3. Hello, I am a retired college English teacher who descends from Washington County families of Sherfey and Isenberg, and maybe others. I am writing a book on the early ministers on the frontiers of Kentucky, Tennessee, and points west. I want to encourage those of you who are connected to or who have an interest in early evangelists to consider sending me your stories. I have created a Yahoo group for this project, and I'll be happy to invite interested contributors to join that site where we can compare notes. Those who write original stories or poems about the early ministers will receive a free copy of the book, if their submission is used in the book. Contact me with your ideas and we can talk. Let me know if you want an invitation to the Yahoo group called LIKE A MIGHTY WIND. Thanks, Ruth Rogers "Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen." (Romans 15:33)

    3. I just uploaded a photograph of the Henry Marsh home near Jonesborough. The caption reads: Stone house near Jonesboro, East Tennessee. Erected in 1816 by Henry Marsh, father of Dr. John L. Marsh of Brownsburg, Indiana. Reita Kelley who contributed the photo would like to find descendants so she can return the photograph to family members (nice lady!) I've reduced the image for easy downloading, but I do have a higher resolution image in my file. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tncjones/marsh.html Pat Sabin

    1. William M. Bolton & Nancy Ann Carter
    2. Folks...(many cousins, I presume)... I have been following the Washington County List for a while, and this my first inquiry. I am seeking information about the parents of my Maternal Grandmother Katherine Marcellus Bolton, b. Jonesborough, TN 12 Jul 1885. So far, I think her parents were William M. Bolton (1848-1915) m. (c. 1875) Nancy Ann Carter (1837-1921), but my data is not solid. If anyone has any good data on these Bolton/Carter connections, I would be very appreciative. Regards, Brad Paxton

    3. To Pat Sabin: This should have been addressed to you. Many thanks! ----- Original Message ----- From: Julia Spicer To: henry@johnsonsdepot.com Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2005 11:10 PM Subject: A beautiful reminder of my life in Johnson City! Upon graduating from ETSC in 1947, I was hired as secretary to Munsey Memorial Methodist Church where Rev. Paul Worley was minister. One morning, a "ratty" looking man walked into my office with his hands behind him and asked me: "Is this the place where they heal souls?" at which point he held up a pair of boots! This man was Major John Parmenter Mitchell from the Soldier's Home. Major Mitchell attended church services and since I handled the deposit of Sunday collection monies, I noted a check each week written to such as "Pay to the order of that altruistic church" or "Pay to the order of Paul Worley or Julia Spicer, whichever is more important", etc. He and I became good friends and after leaving Johnson City for a teaching position in Bristol, TN. I kept receiving letters from him. Now my question: When did Major Mitchell die and where was he buried? I married in Johnson City in St. John's Episcopal Church and left for our honeymoon to Chattanooga on that Southern Railway depot just as it is pictured here. This is a fabulous site which I shall keep on my computer and refer to often. Thank you for sending out to all of us these delightful memories of a wonderful town! Julia English Spicer

    1. EVANS & NELSON REUNION
    2. Barbara Kesterson
    3. Evans and Nelson ReunionFamily and friends are all invited to attend the annual Nelson Reunion for the descendants of Jave and Ellen Evans Nelson on August 6, 2005, at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall in the Blockhouse Valley area of Anderson County, TN, beginning at 11:00 A. M. Bring food for a covered dish lunch at noon. There will be fun and games for the kids after lunch and music to be enjoyed by the adults. There will be the usual displays of family histories, pictures and other memorabilia, so bring anything you want to display. Jave and Ellen were married in Anderson County in 1877. They lived on Black Oak Ridge where the water tanks in Oak Ridge now set. Their children included David, Henry, Catherine Nelson Tadlock, Frank, Tom, Cynthia Nelson Wilson, Page, Taylor, Sam, and Clara Nelson Yerkes. Ellen was the daughter of Thomas J. and Permelia York Evans who moved to Tennessee from Knox County, Kentucky in the 1870's. Jave is thought to have been a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. For more information, contact Carolyn Nelson Johnson at <mamawcarolyn@peoplepc.com>.
