I am not the one who suggested the moderator set it to "reply to all". I agree with Jerry as I am moderator of a site and it can get to personal. I know some sites do use "reply to all" automatically, but so much of the time as he says it gets to personal. I will be glad to send to all on anything that I receive on Urbana which I have done so far. Linda Crawford
I don't really like lists set to reply automatically to the list. On those set to reply automatically that I've been on they get far too many personal messages that weren't intended for the list. People don't like typing in email addresses. As an administrator I know that to be a fact based simply on the number of replies I receive from individuals replying to messages I've forwarded to the lists from people who either sent it to the wrong list address or were not subscribers. Just how difficult is it to click "reply all" instead of "reply" anyway? Jerry W. I was asked to reply to the list about what I had learned. I need to back up and give my reasons for wanting to know more about Urbana. I was raised in Urbana, MO in Dallas County in Southwest MO in the Ozarks. Our Urbana was supposed to be named for Urbana TN or Urbana Chapel Methodist Church. The town was named by Jane Reser Glanville after where she had came from in the 1840s to the area. Her husband was postmaster of a small post office name Andersonville MO, but for some reason this office was closed and about three miles to the northeast a small settlement was beginning to grow. The Reser family was among those living near by. It is stated that Jane was given the honor of naming the new post office. There are the two versions stated above, but it became the Urbana MO post office in 1856. I had found in my files a notes saying they lived near Chuckey TN. I have found that the cemetery can be located on the TOPO map for that area of TN. There is an Urbana Road near Jonesboro. I haven't had time to see yet if it goes by the cemetery. Urbana Methodist Church was formed in 1817 and later became Limestone Methodist Church-page 1057 of the Washington Co History. Then on page 848 it tells of the Bethesda Academy, an orphanage and Industrial school that was next to the railroad and Urbana Cemetery. It was operated by the Cumberland Presbyterians, but ran into financial problems and closed. Then from Washington County Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. II it states the Urbana Methodist Church was located at Limestone and is now used as a public cemetery. Does anyone know what type of Methodist Church it was, such as M.E. South, etc. Jane's husband Rev. Thomas Glanville was murdered in his home in 1863, supposedly because of what he preached. He was against slavery. His son by his first wife was also murdered the same night. I want to visit your area some day. Linda Crawford

List moderator, Would you consider setting the "reply" to automatically reply to the list instead of the individual? This discussion list doesn't have a lot of traffic, so I don't think seeing all/most of the replies would be too burdensome. Many Washington County familes are inter-related anyway, so what at first might not seem a "related" (forgive the pun) topic to many of us could very well become one quickly. Linda, Would you mind posting a compilation of what you've learned about Urbana Chapel? Thanks, Sherry

Several people have contacted me about Urbana and it is most appreciated. The family that came here from there was the John Reser family and they had attended church at Urbana Methodist, some listed it as Urbana Chapel. One more question--does anyone know where the name "Urbana" came from? I know there is an Urbana in OH and IL and I am sure in other places. Thank you.

Good morning, Margaret uploaded Philadelphia Community Cemetery last night. A spunky little lady, Elaine Cantrell, copied, photographed and researched this cemetery all by herself. Thanks to Geraldine Greenwell for transcribing this one for us. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwashin/cemetery/cemPhilIntro.htm I know some of you have been wanting to see this one for a long time. I'm still hoping to find or connect with someone researching this family, or at least find a cemetery with burials for the family in Washington Co. Tennessee. This family aside from the oldest daughter disappears between 1880 and 1900. Very possible that Eli and Margaret died in Washington Co. TN and are buried there somewhere, I've not come up with any burials or deaths for the family using the County website. They show up on the 1880 census in District 4. The oldest daughter married Peter Clark, and this family moves to Indiana, where the Stafford clan moved. Anyone have access to cemtery records?? or info on the following family?? I have found the William K. Blair household in the 1860 Census http://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/xtn/washington/1860/ but am hoping someone may have access to the 1850 Census and wouldn't mind doing a lookup..? Someone has contacted me about a weaving that he believes was given by my great-grandmother, Nannie Sevier Sabin, to a servant named Lucy Blair. I'm trying to help figure out if this Lucy Blair is the one who appears in the 1860 n the household of William K. Blair. Since the Blairs, Cunninghams, McLins and Seviers were cousins, it's possible that this Lucy also worked for the Seviers. In 1850, William K. Blair was married to Mary E. Yearsley Blair. She died in 1855, and in 1856 he married his cousin, Jane Cunningham McLin (widow of Rev. James McLin). In 1860, the following people appear in the William K. Blair household: .BLAIR Wm. K. 64 Male White Jane Blair 58 Female White John K. 24 Male White William W 13 Male White Martha J. 11 Female White Mary 50 Female Black Lucy 27 Female Black Dell 24 Female Black John 17 Male Mulatto George 8 Male Mulatto Mariah 5 Female Mulatto Rufus 2 Male Mulatto Thanks for any help in solving the mystery of Lucy Blair! Hi, Everyone, This is not one of my family members, but I got this message from a Washington County researcher and offered to forward it to the list. I'm sure the newspaper in question would be the Herald & Tribune, but I don't know where he may be able to get a lookup. If anyone can answer Ken's questions, please e-mail him directly at usafvet1@comcast.net. Thanks, Pat Sabin. ******** His name was James C. Bass b. Jan 24, 1831 N.C. wife Dorothy Morgan Bass, second wife was Dorothy's sister, Martha Morgan Workman Bass. James was a Christian Minister although he did preach at some Baptist Churches. He came to Carter County TN in 1870 from somewhere in N.C. He moved to Johnson City Unknown yr and began preaching in area churches including some in Jonesborough according to one of his granddaughters. Hello! I have my third great grandmother's death certificate, but unfortunately, the name of the cemetery in which she is buried is almost completely illegible. I looks like W Branchok Hill or something like that. The cemetery address is listed as "City." It says the undertaker was a P.W. Barly or Barley. My third great grandmother's name was Nancy Anne (Hilton) Pickering. She died on June 21, 1924 in Johnson City, TN. If you have any suggestions on which cemetery this might be, please let me know. Thanks! Have a great day! Marc Hoenstine hoenstine@earthlink.net
