I'm interested in knowing that too. My great-great-grandmother lived there. She was a Randolph. The whole familiy moved to So. Illinois. -----Original Message----- From: jprince <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, February 12, 2000 8:29 AM Subject: Re: [TNWASHIN] Lick Creek TN > >Thanks for the info. It has been really interesting as many of you recount how our ancestors lived not that long ago. Do any of you remember the community coming together to make molasses on a fall evening?Maybe it is still done the same today?Remember them being stirred with something that looked lke a shovel. It has been about 40 yrs. since I saw it. Also remember my grandmother making apple butter in a large pot over a fire in the backyard.I am also glad I had the opportunity to see butter churned.real homemade mincemeat(esp.pie),and vegetables being canned.Things my children can only hear about.
Thanks for the info. Was that ever a part of Maury Co, TN? -----Original Message----- From: Ron <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, February 12, 2000 9:21 AM Subject: Re: [TNWASHIN] Lick Creek TN >Hi, >My info says Lick Creek is in Benton County. >Ron > > >----- Original Message ----- >From: jprince <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2000 8:04 AM >Subject: [TNWASHIN] Lick Creek TN > > >> >> Can anyone tell me where Lick Creek TN is located? >> Thanks >> Judy >> >> > >

Then my Mom made cracklins for us kids. You really brought back memories when you mentioned the smell of them. It was wonderful, and we kids could hardly wait for them to cool so we could have some. Of course, with what we know about healthy eating today, we would never eat one, but back then they were OH, SO GOOD!!!! Like they say, sometimes ignorance is bliss
Please keep telling us more - for those of us who didn't have your experiences - we can enjoy them now - I can just see you churning that crock and hating every minute. I did get to lick the churn stick as I helped in making butter and loved....that buttermilk - (this was in Michigan in 1930s) Jan
Please keep the interesting old customs alive. I love to hear how they made the molasses, apple butter and especially mincemeat - I love it but most people nowadays say 'yuk' to it. jan w.

Well hello Jean! Are you following me? :) You should know by now that I will take ANY information you can give me. Marriage, Census, Cemetery, Will, whatever you can find on the ASTON surname. Since ASTON,(like so much of my other names) is unusual, I am sure that they are connected to me somehow. I am gathering all info and working on connecting mine to them. Thanks again! Queet
Could someone please lookup a marriage record for SOUTHY NELSON in Washington County TN. Thanks in advance for your help. This has been an important source of info for me - along with Obits in the paper. I have collected many of them. They are very interesting , however - beware : garbage in garbage out - I have found many mistakes in these pamphlets. It just depends on who gives the info and how accurately it is transcribed. My point is its not an official document. I have two that didn't even get the date of death right. One listed an Uncle as a brother. Both were from the large funeral home in Jonesboro. Hi Queet! Small world, huh? :-) I have a couple of resources, what do you need, marriage or census index? Jean At 06:03 PM 2/11/00 -0500, you wrote: >Hello everyone! > >I am new to the list and I am looking for any information on the surname >ASTON. I agree about the funeral home flyers -- I have tried to keep all the ones for my immediate family -- however, information in them does have mistakes sometimes -- noted the spelling of the last name of pallbearers on one of my Aunts -- was her grandson-in-law and the last name wasn't spelled correctly. So, I do use them as a source of information, but need to watch the accuracy. Nancy in Iowa
Hi Queet, What a great idea to save and have these memorials available for genealogy. Jan W.
Something has just been brought to my attention when I was looking through my scrapbook of family information. I realized that the memorial phamplets that you get when you go to a funeral of someone who has died gives a ton of information at times. I also noticed that you hardly ever run across any copies of these at any genealogical societies. So, I called one of the funeral homes that has handled some of my relatives in the past. They informed me that they don't give those phamplets to the libraries or genealogy places. They never thought about how important it was to keep this information for research purposes. So, I am going to call my local genealogical society and see if we can't start saving these important documents for research. I have found some of these phamplets had more names and more accurate information on them than obits did at times. It might be a good idea for everyone to contact their libraries or genealogical socities nearby and pass on this new information. Thanks for listening, Queet
Hello everyone! I am new to the list and I am looking for any information on the surname ASTON. In the 1850 Washington Co., TN Census Index it listed some ASTON's there. Could someone do a lookup for me? Queet
Yes, you have a point. At some point there has to be inbreeding because you run out of people (not enough people alive at the time). That is what we call an ethnic group. Some degree of common genetic heritage and shared physical traits.Common ancestry is OK (nothing wrong with it genetically). In the Bible they called them tribes - the Jewish people are an excellent example.
