"Washington County, TN, Tombstone Inscriptions Plus Genealogical Notes" by Charles M. Bennett and the Wautauga Ass. of Genealogists, Compiled by Loraine Bennett Rae, C. Loraine Bennett Rae, 1979, Nashville, TN. There are at least 3 vols. of this work. Check the TN and/or Washington Co. US GenWeb sites for further info. I do not know if you can still purchase these but recently I saw on one of these two named WEB sites (don't remember which) some listing from these books and prices for purchase of look-up info from them. I have copies of many pages from the 3 vols. but do not own the books and I have no index for what I have. I can do lookups only if the cemetery name and possibly page no. is given as it is too hard to do them otherwise. Dear Beverly, Thank you for looking and I am sorry for not specifiing a time or name. I do have a copy of the Washington County, TN History Book, but if you are using a Cemetery Book, I am interested in dates from 1806 to 1817. I am sorry, but I can't give you a specific first name, just a possibility such as John or Isabell or Daniel or William or Henry or Andrew or Peter. If you do have a Washington Co.,TN cemetery book, I would like to know the name of it. When requesting a volunteer to look something up for you it's VERY important to ask for a specific name and specific time period. Unless of course your last name is XZOBER, in which case you can be sure there are probably very few listed. I just checked for SIMPSON in the "History of Washington County Tennessee" and there are 27 listed on almost as many different pages. It's polite not to take up too many hours of a volunteer's time. I can imagine Simpson cemetery litsings are probably numbered in the hundreds. If you can provide a name/time period I would be glad to see if your individual is listed in "History of Washington County", and if so, transcribe the information related to that individual. And no, I'm not the list police. Just a volunteer on several sites who continually gets bombarded with requests such as this. I need all SMITHS for Hillsborough County. I'd love any Henley's you can find, if it's not too many! Particularly Henley's in the late 1700's to late 1800's. Especially, John Henley and his wife Catherine Henley, he died May 27, 1821 and Catherine died April 23, 1855. They were my ggg grandparents. I am trying to locate Henley's from this family particularly. Thanks for your help and let me know if you need more info. I am also looking for any of their children or parents, etc. Thanks, Jennifer Henley

Good Morning, Would anyone know whether a cemetery book for Washington County was ever published, and if so, and you possess a copy, would you be willing to look for a death date and burial location for a Uratha Hale BACON, b. Sept 11, 1788, and died January 29, 1829. The death date is suspect, because among the children who were born to Charles BACON and Uratha HALE, there was a Hilda Malinda BACON, b. Oct 1830. Charles BACON remarried Martha "Patsy" BEAN November 15, 1831, Washington County, TN, and as you can see, Hilda falls in between the cracks! Another researcher of this family recently made phone contact with someone whose elderly aunt told him that Hilda was Uratha's child. It seems a good likelihood that Uratha may have died in childbirth complications, and her death date must be off, or Hilda's birthdate. Thanks for any light you can shed on this family. Sarah, also called Dolly, was the dau. of Gov. John Sevier and his first wife Sarah Hawkins. Sarah Hawkins Sevier was born in Rockingham Co., VA, in 1770 and she and her husband were married very young at about age 16. They had 10 children, as I understand, although none of the children are named in the Zella Armstrong books which are a collection of submissions and not of actual records. The BROWNs and SEVIERs are fairly well known families with many descendants. Both families are connected to my BAYLESS ancestors but they are not my direct ancestors. There is a lot about the SEVIERs in the series "Notable Southern Families" by Zella Armstrong. This entire series is also available on the Family Tree maker CD #191: Southern Genealogies #1 1600s-1800s which I own. There are also some BROWN and SEVIER histories in the Washington Co. history by WAGS, 1988. I also have a copy of this. Others know more about these families than I do as I have not researched them in any depth. If you do not get more info, I will gladly see what more I might be able to find in my books for East TN. Dear Listmembers ,I am researching the families of the 2 Jacob Brown's who were in Washington County in the late 1700s. One had a son Benjamin who married Sarah Hawkins Sevier. Does anyone know what happened to this couple? My ancestor Elizabeth Brown b about 1800 was married in Union Co IL in 1818. The 2nd Jacob had several children who went to that area, but there was also a Benjamin who took up land at the same time in Union Co who was not related to them. I have narrowed it down to George Brown, or Benjamin as the father of my Elizabeth, but I have not been able to find out where Benjamin came from. Elizabeth's eldest daughter was named Sarah. Anyone have any suggestions about either of these families? Betty Silfies
Does the name Young KEEBLER and wife "Peggy" mean anything to anyone on this list? I found a note in my grandmother's Bible that one of my ancestors, Malinda Jane Baskett Murray, was "raised from a small child by her mother's sister, Peggy Keebler and her husband, Young Keebler." Does anyone have the surname KEEBLER in your files? I think this perhaps to be in Washington Co TN. Is there anyone out there with a clue? Bev

Good morning, I am posting this message for a lady who does not have a computer. You can rely to me or to her at Elaine Cantrell, PO Box 1131, Jonesborough, TN 37659. Elaine is trying to find information and pictures of the schools in Washington County built under the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States, Harold L Ickes, Administration of Public Works, 1939. This information with the name of the school appears on a 1 x 2 ft. marker attached to the building at eye-level by the front door. Buildings that she has identified thus far: Oak Springs (Harmony Community), Bowmantown, Telford, Conklin, McKinley (Midway), Asbury, Jonesborough (on Boone St.), Austin Springs. Also, she is interested in any schools in the county that no longer exists. Elaine would appreciate any information that you can share with her. You should also be aware that there are some errors in the family histories. I have one Washington Co. ancestor who is included in two different family histories with seriously conflicting information. Even so, I found some excellent leads in the family histories. I haven't resolved the conflicting information--there were two Peter Millers, both of whom had sons named Jacob--but the two family histories are good starting points for me. It should be easier to try to disprove one and confirm the other than to have to start with nothing--just like the information on the Mormon website.
