I am looking for any info on William or Joseph Tucker who came to Washington Co. 1774 to 1776 and settled in Wautauga Settlement. May have been Quakers. Or any Tuckers before 1800 in this area.Helen

Hi from Ohio, Hope this info about my direct ancestor rings a bell with a researcher on this list. In 1830 census my Zachariah WHITSON is listed on page 20 of Washington Co. Neighbors that preceed his name are: W. CARMICLE, S.HALE, MAJ.MATTHEW STEPHENSON, J.KEENER, S.BEAN, J.ARCHER and those following his name are: COL.JACOB BROWN, A.JOBE, J.CLOYD, J.COOPER & P.BOWLING, N.CLARKE. He lived in the Greasy cove area which seems to be in the SE quarter of the county. In 1835/6, he bought land at a sheriff's sale and it was adjoining land owned William Whitson. His oldest son was also a William. In 1818 he married Jane SEABOLT in Carter Co. She was born about 1818 in NC. Zach & family removed to JoDaviess Co IL and he purchased land there May 18, 1846. Trying to prove who his father was. -- Nancy M. According to family Bible records, several of my RICKETTS family were born in Mill Wood, Washington County, East TN. I know it was a post office from 1861 - 1878. Can anyone tell me where it Washington County it was located? Thanks Much, Marlene
Tell them to try the death index. It is current through 02/2000. I would imagin that she would recognize a social security number if they were married and this would atleast help to see if he died prior to 02/2000. http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 10:38 AM Subject: [TNWASHIN] Richardson >One of my friends called this morning asking if I could help her find her ex >husband. They have been divorced for 40 or more years but one of their son's >has cancer and is wanting to find out if his father is still alive and >possibly talk to him before he dies,I don't normally do this type of thing >but I said I would do all I could to help her.She is trying to fulfill a >dying son's wish. >This is all the information I have. > >His name is Jason Richardson he was married to Dixie Bales they had several >children,The one who is sick Is Jackie. >His family was from La Follette Tn. in Cambell co. >If anyone has any information you can email me privately. > >Thanks and if I did something wrong to post this I apoligize. > >Elsie Hollifield >

There is some new information on the internet about the Battle of Kings Mountain. It's at New River Historical Site. www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm . Your name might be on that. Kathy Awbrey - Pleasant Hill, OR
Hi, My Philip Davis has ties to Rockbridge and Washington counties VA. He appears in the tax lists of Rockbridge in 1778 and in Washington in 1782 and again in 1784. The list in Washington doesn't exist for 1783 (as far as I know). This Philip most likely has a son named Philip who married Ann Hillen in Washington CO. VA in 1803. The elder Philip disappears from the Washington CO. VA tax rolls in ca. 1806-1810. Where did he go or did he pass away? Philip and Ann Hillen Davis have sons named William, James, Andrew, Reuben, and John (these are the ones I have found so far. There were 12 children all together). I have wondered if the elder Philip's name was William Philip Davis since his oldest grandson was named William. And, of course, the elder Philip could have had a brother named John. Say, was your John Adams ever in Wythe and Montgomery Counties (or the area) VA? Nancy Helvey
I wish I could answer your question, but I can only guess. I think that the odds are that it is the same fellow. In the book that I have, THE KING'S MOUNTAIN MEN by Katherine Keogh White. It lists men who were at King's Mt. They include. Col.Arthur Campbell. Also John, Nataniel, Robert and Samuel Davis who were in the battle in Col. Campbell's regiment. The battle was in Oct 1780. These people are considred to be Virginians and exciting things were happening in Greene Co, TN. So a bunch of Virginian came to Greene Co, TN. I have a John Adams and a John Davis "stuck" in Greene Co, TN and I can't get them back from there. Is there any chance that your Philip is related to my John Davis? Hi List, Does anyone know where I can get a list of the men who served under Col. ARTHUR CAMPBELL of Washington CO. VA at the Battle of Kings Mountain on Oct. 7, 1780? Thanks, Nancy Helvey
I have a Benjamin and William REDMAN/REDMON/REDMOND in land transactions in Carter Co (north bank ofthe Watauga) in the 1790s, and a Stephen REDMON as witness in one of them. I'm told that Stephen and his family, including his sister Millie who married John Parker MOORE, moved to Buncombe Co NC in the early 1800s. Does anyone know what happened to Benjamin and William and their families, if they had any? Were Benjamin, William and Stephen brothers? Any and all help gratefully apreciated. Thanks, John Ottinger
What cemeteries would someone who died in the middle part of 1847 be likely to be buried in? I can't find who I am looking for through birth ceritficates, death notices, marriage licenses or census forms so this is all I can think of to try next. If anyone has a book on who is buried in Washington County...could you please see if there is a woman named Brownlow buried in 1847 somewhere for me? You have no idea how much I would appreciate whoever helps me find this elusive person!!! Thanks, Pam
Yes that information helped a lot. Any chance finding their children? Thank you very much for your help.
