    1. [TNWARREN] deciphering old handwriting

    3. I have just a couple general questions about Warren Co records. Seems so basic, it's somewhat embarrassing to ask. 1) Are there any services available to transcribe old handwriting from early Warren Co. land grants, deeds and land records? It took a lot of effort to obtain them and now I am having a terrible time understanding what is written in my ancestral records. 2) I am confused by the logic of the old census records. I am trying to find out more about my gr-gr-gr-grandmother Sarah Gordon (b. abt 1800 – d. 18??). In the 1850 census, she is listed as being born in 1800. Then in the 1860 census, she is again listed as being born in 1800. However, in the 1830 census, she is listed as between being born between 1780 and 1790, i.e. between 10 and 20 years difference. I have reason to believe she was actually born in 1785. Is it possible for old census records to be wrong? Furthermore, in the 1850 census Sarah and Robert Gordon are listed as being from NC, yet in the 1880 census, their son indicates that they were from KY. Was the census-taker wrong again? Any advice would be appreciated. I am racking my brain, trying to make sense of all these puzzling records. Thanks, Tei A. Gordon
