The digitized collections already on our Web site will remain. No new major digitized collections or databases will be added. The effect of this latest round of reductions on the programs and services of the Library of Virginia has been devastating. The Library of Virginia Foundation is currently soliciting contributions for the Annual Fund. The form for contributions can be found on our Web site at <http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwedo/foundation/donation.htm>. We have been gratified by the outpouring of support for the Library and are committed to maintaining fundamental services to our users. The Commonwealth's difficult budgetary situation places in jeopardy much of what the Library has accomplished in the last decade. We appreciate your interest in the Library. -----Original Message----- From: Lesley Carter [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 9:37 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Budget cuts Dear Ms. Hathcock: I read with great disappointment (although not surprise) of the impact that the Commonwealth's budget cuts will have on the Library of Virginia and its service. I know that I, like other amateur genealogists, am particularly unhappy about the elimination of the Digital Library program, which enables genealogists and other researchers outside the local area to access a wide variety of the LVA's materials. I am not writing this e-mail to chastise - quite the contrary. My question is rather this: might there be a possibility of supplementing the LVA's services with private donations? I know that the LVA has boxes in the Richmond facility for cash donations - is there a system in place for accepting donations via mail, online, etc.? I would have to think that other researchers like myself who regularly avail ourselves of the fine resources on the LVA website would be willing to pitch in for the survival of some of these programs. Thank you in advance, Lesley A. Carter Frederick, MD --0-1943512524-1035386541=:33489--
