To Kathleen...about the chain carriers...I, too, have Warren Co. ancestors who were in that work. My were the Dunnegan's. They came to TN from Surry, NC. I believe they were connected to the Armstrongs who are known for early land surveys in TN. Martin Armstrong signed my ancestor, Absalom Dunnegan, marriage bond. The ink was so faded that we could not make out the name of the bride! I am sure I will never know that link! If you learn anything about the chain carriers, please let me know. I know Absalom's sons, John and William, are on record as chain bearers.
