I haven't revisited that question in a while, but I do have a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) test on a descendant of Emaline through a straight female line. It now occurs to me that if I could locate matrilineal descendants of Ivy or Nancy or Polly or West, we could see if their mtDNA matched. I've also considered the Derryberry family, as John and Emaline Brown attended the same church, John Brown was involved in Derryberry land transactions, and so forth. The mtDNA is interesting. This may be a new approach when their is no availablity of records. How many must participate in a direct line to prove the mtDNA? I recently read in one of the emails from a rootsweb where a male line is using DNA to prove/disprove their lineage to a male up the line about 5 generations.
